We stopped in just to get information and pricing. Janette was at the desk when we went in and she was incredibly helpful. After going home and mulling over the information I decided on a tattoo that I wanted and I emailed Jan right away and we set up an appointment. She was just as friendly and helpful through email as she was in person. I went to get my tattoo on a Friday evening - she kept the shop open late for me so I could get it done as soon as possible. I walked in and the shop was clean and inviting. As a first-timer I didn't feel intimidated or looked down upon or judged at all. It was great to just be able to walk in and get a small tattoo and have the artist encourage you and make sure you're okay. I left with an amazing tattoo - albeit small and simple - but it certainly makes me want to go back. We had a lot of laughs and I felt very comfortable and at ease the entire time I was there. My very first trip there, Billie gave me a rundown of proper aftercare to allow my piercing to heal easily and properly, before they pierced my ear. They were very easygoing and acknowledgable about proper anatomy, sterilization, styling and the actual stabbing of the ear! Not only is Skin Decision friendly and professional, they are also progressively open and accepting of all people, including the LGBTQ+ community, and they aren't shy to speak about their support on their social media! They are the most chill and down to earth store I have ever been to, especially in rural Nova Scotia. As the only APP approved piercing team in all of Nova Scotia, they carry a wide variety of brands including NeoMetal, Industrial Strength, BVLA, Alchemy Adornments, etc, to ensure that their implant grade titanium, Niobium and 14k gold jewlery and plugs are made of quality and are bodysafe for everyone. They have different price ranges w quality and beautiful jewelry that are accommodating of all budgets. You can browse their jewlery on their website online in advance to see if there is a piece in particular you would like. Any piercing you can think of, if you have the anatomy for it, they can provide it! If you're not sure your anatomy is correct, they will be upfront about if it is or isn't. If it isn't, they can advise you on something else you may be interested in instead. They are built on respect and integrity. Any questions you may have, they answer without judgement. They are swift in replying to messages on their website about how to book appointments or about jewelry they carry, including the owner Julie, who has been so kind as to answer inquiries I have about ordering jewelry online. (The shipping is free here in NS!!!!) Skin Decision is the only place I plan on getting pierced at as long as I live within NS. I should have realized during the consultation when our artist was abrasive and told us he is known as King Len at the shop. We were getting memorial tattoos done in our Dad's memory who had passed 2 months prior. Len had no thought to the deep meaning behind them, and he was again abrasive when asked to adjust part of the design to our liking. The tattoos were complete, and although it will always have deep meaning for me, there is a missing spot, a dot to the letter "I" that looks like a squiggle, and he was heavy handed in other spots. I hear that other artists there are great, but I will never go back because of that experience with Len. It's taken me 2 years to write this review, but everyone who sees it loves the tribute, but upon closer inspection notice the mistakes. Since I'm wearing this for life, it still pisses me off at times. Utility Tattoo may be a great spot for a tattoo, but my experience with Len was not.

Now that she has her shop in Woodside, she is so laid back and funny, she had me laughing the whole time I was there. I recommend anyone who has heard negative things about her, to give her another chance. Yes, she smokes, but it's her shop! Nicole was diligent about following up with me at all stages and addressing my many questions. I choose Pia as the artist I wanted to work with after checking out reviews and samples online of the artists' work. Don't get me wrong, they all do FANTASTIC work. Pia had a couple tattoos with writing and elements that I was looking for. The sharp lines in her writing were impressive. My tattoo consisted mostly of writing (name, date), and 2 images (dog prints). I sent Pia the design I created in a word document using an Edwardian font. Of course nothing was lined up. Pia took that design, lined up all the elements and suggested a change to one of the letters. At first, I wasn't sure about the change. When I got to the studio and saw the actual stencil with the change, I loved it! Pia is very meticulous and has an amazing eye for detail. Some of the lettering was tight with small loops. I was expecting a few spots not to show detail. I was so wrong. Pia is a true artist and captured every curve, swerve, and loop! I would 100% recommend Sin on Skin, and 110% recommend Pia, especially for very detailed and fine line work. Keep in mind pictures can never compare the seeing the work directly. Also take into account the red and swelling from being a fresh tattoo.
