707 was one of the restaurants open on Christmas Day and my partner and I went here since the wait at Sears fine food was taking too long and we were starving. Upon arrival, the place was not crowded at all, 3 tables were occupied and there were two servers. We promptly got seated and our order was taken immediately after putting our menus down. We received a very fast service, but I do wonder how it would be affected if the place was a little bit busier. I ordered the beef bi bim bop and my partner got the spicy pork bi bim bop on stone bowl which meant he got crispy rice. I really liked my order, I thought it was tasty but my partner thought that his was just okay, nothing special and that he wouldn't come back for it. We also ordered beef tofu soup and chicken skewers. It was ok, but we both definitely had better. Over all, the food were all okay but it wasn't anything special. We came here after a night out at the Tonga Room & Hurricane Bar (walking distance) and had great late-night munchies. We ordered spicy rice cakes, spicy pork, soon tofu, and a pitcher of yogurt soju. All 3 dishes were great. The spicy rice cakes were chewy and the portion size was big enough for 2. The spicy pork was also excellent. The soon tofu was spicy, but tasted great. Portion size is pretty big so if you're not that hungry, you could definitely get any one dish and share. The yogurt soju was yummy. It's definitely better for pre-game than post-game (for obvious reasons). A pitcher is big enough for 2 people (maybe 3). In terms of prices, it's relatively cheap. You would expect this place to be expensive as it is in San Francisco, but the prices are honestly so reasonable. The service was also great. Pretty good korean food, decent service (but pretty slow), and reasonable prices for SF. I tried one of their stir fry dishes (comes with a bowl of white rice) and the kimchi fried rice. It's not that much food for ~10-15 dollars, but I guess I just accept that because we are in SF. I really like the yogurt soju! I shared a small sized yogurt soju with some friends and it was really funny that they served it in one of those glass bottles from Plentea.........anyway, the yogurt soju tasted really good (the small size cost $15 I think). They have pretty slow service which has been noted. When we got the check, I put my card down to pay but it took them so long to take my card that I ended up just walking up to the counter to pay so that I wouldn't have to wait anymore. This is overall a great Korean place to hang out and have drinks at late night. They have projections on the wall playing k-pop music videos. Their food are above-than-average, including most korean BBQ dishes and snacks.I went here a few times all at late 11 PM, and order soju (Korean wine). Came here for a second meal ( I know- we eat a lot ) and a place to drink soju!!!! We ordered spam fried rice, the seafood pancake, fried chicken (soy garlic) and peach soju! We were immediately seated and service was quick and easy. Banchan here is unlimited and my two favorite banchans were a mayo seaweed pulps and the soy sauce potato! The fried chicken WAS AMAZINGGG. Came in here last minute because our original choice was too long of a wait. Luckily we were able to walk right into 707 Sutter, but I can't say I was that impressed overall. For those from the Berkeley area, this place has a very similar menu to OB Chicken (there's corn cheese, garlic chicken, and ddukbokki!). However, the food portions are MUCH SMALLER and the pricing is higher. But taking into account the fact that this place is near Union Square, I can't complain too much. My share of the meal did come under $20, which is pretty good in SF. My friends and I shared the ddukbokki, corn cheese, bulgogi, and soy garlic chicken. Everything tasted fine, but again there wasn't much food. Even the free side dishes were tiny. And the corn cheese? $7 for that little tiny thing sigh. P.S. My Korean-culture obsessed self appreciates the Korean music videos playing the OSTs of my favorite dramas and the giant Shin Min Ah cardboard figure in the front (time to rewatch Oh My Venus haha). read more

My friend, Kendra, and I stumbled into 707 Sutter for lunch on the first San Francisco rainy day in February. This Korean restaurant is extremely spacious and was very quiet, which gave us an opportunity to catch up. Although the restaurant is huge, there was only one waitress serving the whole restaurant. Having only one person in the front during this time was sufficient since the restaurant was pretty slow, but I do hope she has more help when the restaurant gets busy! A full house in this restaurant would be extremely difficult for her to service every single table during peak hours. Kendra and I shared a corn cheese. It was literally just corn with mozzarella, and super delicious. I guess how could one go wrong with mozzarella and corn? :) I would recommend getting this appetizer when you come. I was debating between japchae and dolsot bibimbap. I really love eating jap chae, but since it was cold and rainy out, I decided to get something on the hotter side. The tofu dol sot bibimbap is a hot stone with tofu, egg, and mixed vegetables. There was nothing special about the dish. It wasn't bad, but I've had much tastier dolsot bibimbaps before. But I was pleasantly surprised when I went for dinner (~5pm). For Korean food in downtown SF, it wasn't that bad. You can ask for refills on the small dishes. Disclaimer- this is the only Korean restaurant I have ever been to, so I can't compare it to other Korean food. However, I have been here probably 10 times and loved everything we have ordered. I usually go with a good sized group of friends, and we share everything, so I have tried quite a few things from the menu. My favorite is the kimchi pancake, their spicy wings (be warned that 10 big wings come in an order. This app could easily feed 4) and the stir fried glass noodles with kimchi. I also like the variety that comes in the complimentary appetizer/snack thingy they bring you after you place your order (fun fact for Korean food newbies like me, it's called banchan, and it 's yummy and freeee!) The environment isn't fancy or trendy, but they do have a huge screen playing Korean pop music videos, so those are fun to watch. Service has always been fine. The people who work there seem to stay busy and try their best. If you're in the hood and looking for good full service Korean food, 707 is definitely worth a visit. I've always loved Korean food for the minimal amount of oil they use. Many Asian foods from other cultures use a horrifying amount of oil that is sickening to eat! I was indecisive and ended up getting the typical Bi Bim Bop (beef) and it was really filling! The portion was HUGE and I thought I couldn't finish it, but I miraculously did and I have no regrets. Definitely put the sauce it comes with inside yours and let your rice sizzle and become crisp before mixing! It adds a slight burnt but yummy flavor to the dish. I usually love banchans especially the cucumber but I couldn't even touch it bc it was so unsatisfactory. We had already ordered so I was a little nervous. We ordered the soft tofu soup with beef and the seafood pancake. The soup was alright I would've been fine not experiencing it. I will say the seafood pancake wasn't too bad, it had a nice crunch and the flavor with the sauce on the side was nice. If it wasn't for me getting disappointed that my partner was completely distraught with our order I would've continued eating the pancake. Chicken stew- nothing special about this particular dish. It wasn't good but it wasn't bad either. I wouldn't get this again. Corn cheese- so far the best I've tried. The cheese is soo creamy and the corn was soft. It was a combo made in heaven. Japchae- portion and flavor was decent. I don't like japchae in general so I will not judge this dish. The side dishes were the only thing that was slightly acceptable about this place and that's saying something considering one of them was kelp noodles dressed in mayo. I only had the fried chicken and it was quite good but not spicy at all for me. I don't know much about Korean cuisine but to me spicy means you're sweating and struggling to eat more than one wing at a time. The chicken has a great crunch because they use a lot of batter which I like, and the sauce is flavorful if overly sweet. I would order it again if in the mood for fried chicken wings. I imagine it goes great with beer. My order was takeout and I was served promptly etc. I will be back and I'll be sure to ask for more chile next time. *Update: I came back for the kimchi fried rice and wasn't disappointed. I've been making this dish for years now, -recipe handed down from a friend- and I was pleasantly surprised to see theirs is basically an almost-as-good as my own! The kimchi fried rice comes with the option to choose what kind of meat you want in it, and I would list them but as soon as I hear "spam" that was it. It seems they really stole my recipe, but I'm not mad because it was homey and delicious. Probably, ordering the kimchi fried rice and the chicken wings together would make a great combination. Overall: a great place for Korean comfort food, friendly service, and a casual hangout. I came here for dinner and I got the budae jjigae (on the menu it's spam and sausage stew) and fried dumpling. When the budae jjigae came out I was worried that there was not enough spam and sausage, but I was very impressed by the vegetables (it made me feel less unhealthy LOL). However, it turns out all the meat was hiding underneath the ramen square. There was actually lots of meat and at the end we couldn't finish it all. I have a low spice tolerance, so I was scared it would be too spicy, but it ended up being perfect. It was very savory, but naturally sweet at the same time. The savoriness came from the spam and hot dogs (duh), while the sweetness came from the onions, green onions, and rice cake. I also didn't think I would like the beans that much, but I really did. It also came with two servings of rice (as it's made to be shared between two people). Overall, it was a great experience eating this. The fried dumpling was very yummy and I liked the texture--I thought it was a perfect balance between chewy and crunch. However, it's not super pretty like you might see at ramen restaurants. I also really liked their soy sauce mix. The portion size for this was also very good--it was quite large for an appetizer dish. If you want, you could just order dumplings and eat that as lunch. I liked the service as well. The waitress was very patient, and the waiter who brought out the budae jjigae pot would come back to help us stir it and adjust the heat etc. I definitely plan to come back again, and I hope to bring a third or fourth person, so we can try more dishes (in addition to the budae jjigae!!!). read more

707 Sutter does the classic Korean dishes well - be it seafood pancakes, gyoza or bimbimbap. It is only outshadowed by its cross street rival Cocobang in the korean fried chicken department but that's more than made up in my view by the less cramped quarters and nicer decor. There's generally always a space available so you don't have to wait a long time to be seated. Soju here is pretty good and affordable as well. read more

I think it's slightly more expensive than the other places but the qualify of the food is definitely better than the other places not to mention better service. Sometimes service can be a little slow even when it's not that busy but the food is worth the wait. 707 is bigger than Cocobang and Zzan so the wait usually isn't as long. They also have a wide selection of soju (I tried the lychee one and it tasted okay, wasn't my favorite though.) I tried the BBQ Bul go gi and it was one of my favorites. read more
