Truck stops have a bad rep, if you ask me. Not only have they been featured in various horror…read morescenes in movies and documentaries, but they've always been that place where you want to be fully aware of your surroundings, especially at night. A truck stop was somewhere I went out of pure and deep necessity (I forgot to bring snacks, my gas light just came on, and of course the dreaded bathroom pit stop) and nothing else...until Cupid struck me and I found Love's. I must profess, this is by far the cleanest, well-lit, and friendliest truck stop that I've ever been to, and I travel often from Jacksonville to Tampa. I have this place saved in my GPS favorites, if that says anything. The gas is very affordable....ok I take that back. Gas isn't affordable ANYWHERE these days, but at Love's the price is as reasonable as it's gonna get. The restrooms are impeccable...yes, impeccable and there are hand sanitizer dispensers situated throughout the store. I like roaming the salesfloor during the holidays, because they carry a large assortment of gifts and cool gadgets for stocking stuffers. It also helps that they have an attached 24 hour Arby's so I can get my Beef 'n' Cheddar with Curly Fries fix day or night. I'm horrible with names but the coolest associate is the girl with dreads, I believe she's a supervisor of some sort. She's always friendly, engaging, and multi-tasking like a pro. This is one of those establishments that runs like a well-oiled machine, where the management and staff take great pride in their work. Whether you're on a road trip or just in the neighborhood, I highly recommend this particular Love's Travel Center to one and all! But because this seems like one of those close to the highway options for people on long trips, I'll drop this warning: this station is located amongst a couple hourly-type motels, so there were quite a few loiterers. The problems started at the pump, where it appeared to have some sort of sensor issue where the gas stopped flowing every two seconds. But the real problems were inside. There is only one bathroom for men and women together, which is fine, except for the park where 1) the locks don't work on the door, and 2) it's insanely dirty and clearly has not maintained weeks. The pictures tell the story, but for those of you looking for somewhere to fill up and empty out, try anywhere but here.

We had left our home immediately after my husband finished work at 6PM. If we drove straight through with only one stop for comfort and fuel, we'd arrive at our hotel for the night right around midnight. This was not a good choice for that stop. The store was dirty. The Men's restroom was out of order, so a sign had been hung on the Women's restroom door making this restroom the designated place for everyone. The door was rickety with a poorly patched largish hole in the panel. The entire room was covered in dirt and grime. The toilet was nasty. It was bad, very very bad. Getting back to the pump, my husband was still pumping gas. The pump was slow, very very slow. He finally finished and couldn't get a receipt at the pump. We resorted to taking a photo of the digital display. Not recommended. Avoid if at all possible. Most any other place will be better than this.

The gas prices are competitive and you can sign up for a discount card that earns you cents off gas. If you're gonna grab coffee here, grab your lid from the herbal tea kiosk. The same filthy, sticky, dusty lids have been in the coffee prep area for months. I'm tempted to just dump all of those lids into the trash next time I'm there. Seriously, clean your crap!

The RUDE tech first told me she had nothing for me and then told me it wasn't approved by my insurance. I explained it was a vital medication and I would pay it without going through insurance. The RUDE pharmacist then screamed from the back that she has 70 scripts to fill in 20 minutes so I could come back tomorrow. So much for southern hospitality. And I thought "New Yorkers" were rude.

I asked if there were any other options and she said no. She tried to justify that the results would take 24-48 hours anyway. She did this in a condescending manner. The point was that I got my sick wife out of the house and drove 15 miles after scheduling an appointment appropriately beforehand. There was no empathy at all. I was very upset and disappointed.
