Triple M FM 104.5

Anyone who has lived in Brisbane long enough has heard the loudly whispered "Triple M!" slogan that…read morehas been around for years. And those who have lived here long enough generally acknowledge that Triple M is considered by many to be a bogan* station. OK, Triple M has arguably become less bogan over the years. They now sometimes play pop music in an attempt to draw in a bigger crowd. Despite these efforts, Triple M's crowd essentially remains the same. However, it now plays more modern rock as opposed to being stuck in foregone decades (ten years ago, Triple M was the station your Van Halen-loving Dad listened to. Nowadays, you might hear some Dandy Warhols). If you drive a ute, you probably blast Triple M. Blokes don't drive around listening to B105 or A.M. radio (FM alternatives such as Triple J and Nova are a little too alternative and pop, respectively, in nature). A quick guide to commonly-played songs on Triple M: - 3am - Matchbox 20) - Khe San (or anything by Cold Chisel) - Sweet Child of Mind (Guns 'n' Roses) - Born in the USA or Dancing in the Dark - Bruce Springsteen - Born to be Wild - Steppenwolf - Rock Lobster - B52s - Jack and Dianne - John Cougar Mellencamp - My Sharona - The Knack - Glycerine - Rush - With or Without You (and other U2) - Smells like Teen Spirit - Nirvana - Come on Eileen - Dexys Midnight Runners. You get the idea. As to the gender vibe, this is more of a male-centric station. Actually, a brief glance at Triple M's website main page describes it all without the need to click on links. There's a link to the Hottest Babes of NYE (including a competition called Fish 'N' Chicks featuring a bikini babe), a photo gallery of The 83 Funniest Beach Fails... EVER!" (featuring girls in bikinis falling over); footy tipping; live updates on the Test cricket; an interview with Van Halen; a gallery of Victoria Secret Models Undressed; Triple M's Babe of the Year; Porn Stars worth losing your job over; the Best Use of A Bikini (including a nude Lara Bingle and actresses in bikinis); and the WAG Watch Latest. At the second I looked at the website, the last song played was Poison by Alice Cooper. It's OK to like Triple M, especially if you're a blokey guy. I probably wouldn't mention a particular fondness for it in mixed company, though. *The term bogan is the Australian and New Zealand equivalent of a redneck.
