This restaurant is located in the 6th floor and was my favorite meal of my trip. It's a bit pricy…read more(upscale US priced) but it's fine dining, sit down service and has a great view of the plaza below. We did not have reservations but came early. We were not sat on the patio as those seats were all taken by reservations but we were able to walk out and take a picture of the plaza below. I chose the pulpo adobado. Grilled octopus, a spicy avocado sauce and biryani rice. The octopus was nicely charred and the creamy avocado sauce went well with the charred octopus. The octopus was grilled perfectly it had a nice char outside and was tender inside. I tried a bit of my friends Chamorro de Verdi (pork shank) in mole sauce. The pork shank was braised beautifully and fall off the bone tender. The mole sauce was flavorful and not overly sweet. The portion was also huge. The meal came with bread accompanied with 2 types of butter regular and a coco infused butter. Both had salt on the side which added a bit of flare to it. I preferred the regular butter but enjoyed trying the chocolate one, it reminded me more of a breakfast pastry or a dessert. Overall great meal, service, ambiance and nice view.

It's a high end dining establishment and offers a 4 courses (starter, corn course, entree, and dessert). 4 course - 950 MXN ($54) - For my 4 courses I went with a pumpkin cream with Oscosingo cheese and buttered pumpkin seeds soup, a beef tenderloin Pachola taco for the appetizer, totoaba fish with roasted red bell pepper sauce, truffled mashed potatoes and asparagus and finally for dessert a carrot tart with coffee cream and vanilla white chocolate ganache. The soup was rich and decadent and a great start to the meal. The taco appetizer was more like a juicy ground beef kabob with wonderful seasoning. The totoaba confit was beautifully plated and went well with the sauce and mashed potatoes. Finally the dessert impressed with its unique earthy taste from the carrot and smooth chocolate taste. Overall, El Balcon del Zocalo impressed with it beautiful views, and outstanding and decadent meal. While on the pricier side by Mexican meal standards, the splurge is worth it!
