I began regularly using this store abut 18 months ago. I'm far from a regular but I've spent a few thousand dollars with them. At the end of my last project I had trouble defining what I wanted and ended up buying the wrong thing. I tried to make sense of it with the staff and the break point was when, in the middle of a conversation, the staff member turned his back to me and walked away saying, "that's how we do it around here..." It was bad enough that he walked away from me, but to cast off that provincial, insular BS was doubly infuriating. This company does not even warrant a star. To say our experience with this business and their employees has been horrific is an egregious understatement. They should not have the privilege of operating a business as this is the most unprofessional and incompetent business/individuals we have every dealt with throughout this process or even in our life. We are building a new home and originally ordered the bulk of our materials from 41 Lumber as we wanted to use/support a local business. However, during the process we learned this company used the incorrect plans to source and sell us materials, made numerous false statements about their actions and flat out ordered the wrong items. Besides most of the materials for the house being incorrect, their "self titled" professional kitchen and bath designers also have absolutely no idea how to design or correctly source products for a kitchen or bathroom. They claim to be professional kitchen and bath designers but ordered every single component of our kitchen and bathroom incorrectly (wrong cabinet style and wrong dimensions). They admitted to the error and promised to work with us on a correction but they never corrected one single error. In December of 2021 it will be 2 years that they have been holding all of our money for the products ordered and these products were returned to them in the original unused condition. The CEO of the company promised in writing to return our money last September 2022, however, instead sent a settlement agreement requesting that we waive all future legal claims against them in order to get a refund for the products they incorrectly ordered and are still holding to this day. We hope this message finds someone before they make the mistake of using this business. I've been buying lumber and other building supplies at the Houghton 41 Lumber since I moved here in 2001. I've *never* gotten bad service from them. I've had to wait in line a few times and I've always tried to be reasonable with special requests. Not a big deal: I understand that I am not their only customer... If someone calls while you're standing there in the midst of being helped, you must wait! If you're looking for a product they don't have, expect to receive paltry info, no comparisons and exhorbitant prices as if the internet doesn't exist. No product knowledge either. I'm very annoyed with the service my husband and I received at 41 Lumber in Houghton. We went in on Wednesday to get some wood to build a half door which is a pretty important project at the moment. First of all the woman at the front desk was rather irate with us when we asked her if we could get someone out to the garage to cut the wood for us. She had us pay (around $35) and then called someone in to help us. He just about beat us there but was also pretty rude when telling us that he's too busy to cut the wood for us and that we would have to come back another day. He said that he has a lot of "pending orders" which if that's what I think it is, I'm a bit confused about why orders for people that aren't there are more important than a 5 or so minute job for someone who's already there and waiting. So after he tells us we'll have to come back he actually sent my husband back in to pay more money to cut it even though we had already told them we want it cut. My husband gave them contact information but we have yet to get any calls. We're going to go in tomorrow and see what's up. Maybe I'm just an angry person but I'm fairly annoyed about the whole situation. I don't see why it's so hard to cut a chunk of wood for someone, we needed it cut once. We definitely will not be giving anymore business to 41 Lumber. read more
