He took the time to understand how I style (or lack there of) my hair on a daily basis & was sure to work this into the cut to ensure I had a style that complimented my lifestyle. Not one to usually engage in salon conversation (I'm in magazine viewing mode), I found myself happily chatting away with Todd & before I knew it I was being handed a handheld mirror for the obligatory "back of head" view - which solidified my satisfaction with his skills. The salon itself is on the petit side & featured comfy chairs & even more comfortable wash-basin recliners. No overpowering repetitious music & great location only a quick walk from ripponlea station. Will no doubt be returning to Nylon soon.

(Plus its hat weather at the moment as a Plan B!) I couldnt have been in safer hands. The staff at Lady Marmalade in Prahran greeted me warmly on arrival. I was offered an array of beverages and even cake! I met Jo who looked after my colour and Juliet who would be saving me from my previous hair cut disaster. Both listened to my probably misguided dreams for my hair and asked all the right questions giving feedback and guidance without being pushy or overwhelming. I couldn't be happier with the resulting cut and colour! And the shampoo/ head massage alone is worth making an appointment for! Based on Yelp reviews, I went to take a look at the salon. It was very busy on a Wed afternoon, which I took as a good sign and made an appointment for Friday. Atsuko did a fantastic job cutting and coloring my hair. Her attention to detail was impressive - she spotted mistakes in my previous haircut that even I hadn't noticed, and was very careful the the color didn't splatter or run onto my skin or clothing. I brought some photos of my ideal cut - she did a great job marrying the style to what my hair actually does. She even gave me some tips on how to blow dry it better when I am doing it myself. Plus, she managed to pull this all off in less than 2 hours! (And it didn't feel rushed). My hair looks amazing and I am so happy with it! And even though they seem to always be busy, they are somehow able to fit people in on short notice so don't be shy about calling them.

To put it plainly, Shibui is very, very "cool". And I do mean that like your mum would use it. The stylists are totally competent as are the colourists, but in the six months I was having my hair done here not once did I have anyone ask me where I got it done. Moreover, unless you're famous or under 22 the staff probably won't warm to you, remember you or give you any sort of service that makes you feel like anything other than a way to fill in their day between cigarettes. They're certainly not rude... but they're also not memorable. But that's okay, because neither are you ;)

I have been treated by most of the stylists on staff and they all do an incredible job. I found they really took the time before and during my treatment to make sure they fully understood my requirements and also made sure I was happy with the way it was progressing. All in all a high quality salon with a great selection of capable stylists on staff, and located right in the middle of Chapel Street there is an elegant and boutique feel to this hair salon without the pretentiousness.

As such I rarely see the same stylist twice. This changed when I visited Rubi and had a great cut care of Emma Lee. My difficultly curly hair was dealt with beautifully and my new low maintenance hairdo was exactly what I wanted. I've been three times in a row now and believe me when I say that this is the longest relationship I've had with a hair stylist in my life. High praise! Give them a go. A loyalty program is available as well which rewards frequent visits.
