I am a huge fan of RAMP Tennis! If you have a child who is serious about tennis and has a desire…read moreto get better, then this is the place for them. The coaches are very dedicated and genuinely interested in helping the kids in their program grow and improve as a junior tennis player. They make the practices enjoyable for the kids and although the kids are working hard in their drills and exercises, they are doing with with smiles on their faces. I'm the dad of a 7 year old boy who has been playing tennis for about a year and a half. We recently decided to look for a tennis clinic that offered a bit more in terms of quality of instruction and development philosophy. I happened across the Ramp Tennis website and drove the family down one Friday just to see what the program was all about. The next Monday, we returned and have been going ever since. My son is a very shy kid and usually does not like to join in activities with a bunch of kids he doesn't know. He found the coaches (and the other kids) very welcoming. He really likes his coaches and enjoys playing with the other kids who all seem to share a love for the game of tennis. The facilities are first class - it is the USTA Training Center - West located at the StubHub Center. There are a bunch of very nice hard courts and 4 green clay courts which the kids absolutely LOVE. In southern California, there are just a handful of locations where kids can get some experience on Har-tru. If you want to hear one of the coaches, Marc Lucero, talk about the program check out the following link: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/ur10snetwork/2013/05/13/parenting-aces

My child loves RAMP! When we were looking for a new tennis academy for our daughter to train, she…read morehad certain things she was looking for...she wanted an academy where she connected with the coaches, an academy with experienced coaches that would help her develop her game so that she could achieve her lofty goals, someplace where she could work hard and was pushed to work even harder, and someplace that offered positive reinforcement with a little fun mixed in. She found that all at RAMP!! What makes RAMP different from other tennis academies (and we've experienced several), is the passion, enthusiasm and dedication of the coaches. It's immediately noticeable!! It's an incredible environment for the players. The coaches are true professionals who are committed to helping each player become the best they can be! The coach-to-player ratio is low so that each player gets the opportunity to work on their specific individual needs. Our daughter always has a huge smile on her face after a RAMP practice and her tournament results are reflecting all the hard work she's putting in at RAMP! What a great combination!!!

Wow. Where do I even start? Rhonda is simply amazing. I began my tennis journey as an adult about a…read moreyear ago, having only picked up a racket once before taking my very first beginner group lesson with her. Now, I'm addicted to this sport and play as much as I can -- in large part thanks to Rhonda. Having a patient, thoughtful coach makes all the difference, and Rhonda is exactly that (and more!). Her enthusiasm and support are infectious. I honestly don't know how she finds joy in watching a bunch of adult-beginners batting around green dot balls, but somehow she makes me feel like I'm playing center court at the US Open! She's incredible at building confidence, which is huge when you're learning something new at any age (but maybe especially as an adult?). Rhonda has a knack for observing you for just a few minutes, pinpointing exactly what's off in your technique, and offering small, easy-to-apply adjustments that make a huge difference. Also when it came time to purchase a REAL racket (not the dinky amazon one I brought to my first lesson), she helped recommend the specs and coordinate the purchase (invaluable because I had no idea what to ask or look for!) If you're even thinking about learning tennis or improving your game, reach out to Rhonda. She's simply the best.

I recently signed my 5yo up for a Tenniskids class at her Montessori school. We missed the first…read moreclass due to vacation and the coach just didn't show up for the second class. Supposedly he had a family issue, but his boss didn't know about it and the school was not notified he would not be there until several calls were made from the staff at the school. Because of that situation I was a little leery of the professionalism of the company, so I made it a point to arrive early to watch the tennis lesson. The coach, KC, was even tempered, patient, and friendly with the children, so I was very pleased initially. He also had all kinds of equipment that I could see would be very useful for teaching 3-6 yos. Including a tiny net which about 3 kids could stand at without being too close. I assume because of the tiny net, he was only instructing 3 of the 6 children at a time. The other 3 children were sent to play while waiting their turn. He actually told one group "you can play with the inflatable man" which had a hole in the middle, for hitting the balls through I assume. However, their was no instruction actually given to them. He moved the inflatable behind him so they would not get hit by a ball, but it was still out of his sight. The children of course started hitting it and jumping on it and some other kids from the school who were having recess came over and joined in on the fun. One of the 3 children getting the lesson decided they would rather play with the inflatable man also and left the actual lesson, leaving only my child and one other child getting a lesson. Which in theory would have been pretty nice to get a semi-private tennis lesson. However, a child came over 3 different times to tell the instructor the kids were doing something to her, being rough, etc. He listened patiently to her complaint each time and then walked over to tell the other children to stop rough housing and then went back to the lesson. The actual time of instruction could not have been more than 5mins total out of the 15mins I was watching. My children have been in several different age-appropriate classes and my husband has been a coach for this age group for over 20 years, so we are well aware of how this age group can be taught/coached in a constructive and safe way. The curriculum should never include time where children are left unattended and out of sight. If the instructor can not engage 6 children at the same time, there needs to be an assistant or a different curriculum for this age group. When I brought this up to the owner of Tenniskids, Jeff Newell, his response was "Our price of $15 per class would not allow for two coaches, we would lose money". If the money is the only thing he cares about I definitely do not want my child in that program. I will say, he did agree to give me a refund, minus the 2 classes that have already been held. He started his email response off by saying "I guess tennis isn't for everybody". Which is not really the point. My daughter loves tennis and has taken 2 other tennis programs (also for 4/5yos) while we lived in the SF Bay Area. Those two companies (one for classes and one for camp) seemed to easily keep all the kids engaged. If they weren't hitting the ball themselves they were listening to the instruction or running drills. I guess since the program is at the school they hope the parents don't actually come to watch, so they don't know what they are paying for is mediocre daycare with a tennis racquet.

I would highly recommend him for tennis lessons. He is is a member of the U.S. Professional Tennis Association, and he is a former Area Training Center Coach for the SoCal section of the National Team, and the private coach of six National Junior Champions. He is very friendly, attentive, and creates a relaxed environment that makes learning feel enjoyable rather than intimidating. In just under three months, I've already noticed much improvements in my forehand, which has given me a big confidence boost. My backhand still needs some work, but Demetrius is always encouraging and patient, which helps me stay motivated. I also really appreciate that he takes the time to review clips I send from my solo wall practice and gives me useful feedback in between lessons. That's another thing, taking lessons with him has given more enough courage to book a court and practice on my own. It's clear he genuinely cares about helping me improve, and I'd recommend him to anyone looking for a supportive and dedicated tennis coach.

The coaches are really great at working with the kids and at encouraging them and having fun while also laying a groundwork for solid soccer skills. I have one son in the Diamonds league (4-7) and one son in the Toddlers Program (2-3). We love both programs. They are age-appropriate, tailored to the kids' abilities, and very focused around both improvement and encouragement. Both coaches of the diamonds have taken time with my son, who is sometimes reluctant to participate, to encourage him to come back out onto the field and keep trying. The toddlers' coach is energetic, patient, and comes up with great games to encourage the kiddos to join him. Very happy with the program and strongly recommend as a beginners' introduction to soccer.

Instead, several employees walked right past us, made eye contact, and never even said hello or asked if we needed help. The lack of a welcoming atmosphere made my child feel uncomfortable and lose any enthusiasm for participating. We ended up leaving before getting started. To make matters worse, when I explained the situation and requested a refund, I was told no. That was incredibly disappointing and only reinforced the feeling that customer service is not a priority here. There may be talented coaches, but talent alone doesn't make a great club. A little kindness, professionalism, and basic courtesy go a long way. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this business. If you want it to be even stronger, I can make it more blunt while still keeping it credible and avoiding statements that could undermine the review.
