Am I still in Carmel?! This swanky-cool rooftop gave me the excitement of a big city, with the relief of easy parking and quick service. 3UP is on top of the restaurant Anthony's Chophouse, but uses a different door. If you're standing outside Anthony's, you'll see a sign on the sidewalk that says "3UP this way" with an arrow. You take the elevator up to the third floor and can choose to sit outside or inside. The inside bar area is completely open to the outside (it's all a huge window that opens) and the outdoor part is covered and full of comfy chairs, tables, and a plant wall. Yes, this is an upscale spot, but you don't need to pay top dime. I paid only $6 for a Peroni, but they also had cocktails ranging from $10-$14, a few other beers (both less and more expensive options), and wine as well. They also had a menu of snacks including fries, sandwiches, and other meals and mini meals. Everyone should definitely visit this spot at least once! It's so beautiful, comfortable and fun. A neat place to sit and have drinks. You're up on a rooftop! You're above everyone, and when you look down, you can see downtown Carmel and all the people who aren't having $13 cocktails like you are. I feel like there's a metaphor here somewhere, but I'm not sure what it is. We were starving when we visited, so we ordered the things that sounded the most filling and like they had the most calories: the "impossible" sliders (vegetarian burgers with cabbage salsa on pretzel buns) and the UP nachos (potato chips with braised pork, queso, green onion, beans, lime sour cream and tomatoes). Both of our "shareables" were really good, but we liked the nachos the best. We had never had nachos made with kettle-style chips, and we were pleasantly surprised. The chips stay really crunchy underneath all that melty cheese and pork. They have a lot of interesting-sounding cocktails here. Lots of unusual botanical and alcoholic combinations. But I was feeling like something citrusy, so I got the Rooftop Roundabout, which is gin, grapefruit, lemon, aperol and rosemary. Delicious! It goes down easy (almost too easy), and was the perfect thing to sip while I sat outside on the rooftop and enjoyed the nearby fire pit. By the way, they have outdoor rooftop fire pits at 3UP! They are first come, first served. We were able to snag one because we are old and eat dinner promptly at 4 p.m. There was only other couple there when we were there, and they were old too, so us old people got first dibs on the rooftop fire pits. Yay for eating early! One interesting thing about 3UP is their restrooms. They have gender neutral toilets, and they also have a communal sink where you wash your hands. The venue is pricey, so if you are on a budget, then I would not recommend this place unless you just want to get a cocktail and nothing else. I had the Milo's spicy margarita and it was excellent!!! The drinks were delicious. I ordered a "Papa Don't Preach" and I must say, it's one of the best drinks I've had. This place is a great spot for a girls night out, a date night, or even a happy hour with co-workers. Keep in mind though, in order to get to the rooftop, you may have to wait a while. There is a big overhang in case of weather. There are a couple of fire pits and very large heaters in the ceiling. They put down some major heat! Rooftop bars are hard to come by in the suburbs so this was a must try spot for me. I've been a couple times now and have really enjoyed it each time. I went for the first time in the winter when they released their new cocktail menu. The cocktails were excellent and the patio is heated in the winter so we were perfectly comfortable sitting outside even though it was pretty cold out. When I visited most recently, I finally tried the food and was impressed! We tried the margarita pizza which was really more like a cheese pizza but delicious nonetheless. 3UP was a complete lifesaver. Two weeks before my June wedding, my reception space cancelled and we were stuck trying to find a new space that could accommodate us on such short notice. Thank goodness we came across 3UP on a blog post!! I had never heard of it but I reached out to the event manager, Julianne, and set up a tour. Once we saw the space we knew it was perfect. It's vibe is upscale but still fun. The space is perfect for a private event- the open rooftop area is partly covered so it is usable even if it rains and allowed guests to spread out and relax in the comfy seating. Not to mention the living plant wall makes for a fun photo backdrop! On top of the space being perfect, the drinks and food had all of my guests talking! Typically, the private events have buffet style food but COVID. So they accommodated us by creating a personalized menu that guests could order from (it was limitless) and served everything individually. The cocktails were crafted beautifully and were strong! Don't even get me started on the food. It's high quality and delicious and you'll want to eat everything! Finally, I need to talk about the service we had during the reception. Our party was outside of normal business hours so everyone was there exclusively to serve us and it made us feel so special. All of the staff were extremely attentive and gracious. Since everyone was ordering individually, they had to put in a lot of extra work but they were on top of it! Food and drinks came out promptly and we never had to seek out service. This place is great! Really nice atmosphere - we went on a night where there was live music, I'm not sure if they always do that. The drinks were not the best (but that could have been because it was absolutely packed) and there was barely any seating left. We ended up sitting on a ledge and a lot of people were standing. You know when you see a former Bachelor somewhere in Carmel it's gotta be a cool place, and 3UP does not disappoint! It's above Anthony's Chophouse on Main Street, but it's definitely worth the wander up the elevator to find it. With a vibrant outdoor seating area including a living wall and the trendy layout inside (complete with wooden communal tables and a wall of windows that opens up to the outside), this is the perfect place to grab drinks after work or start a night out. I came around 5-6pm and it wasn't crowded at all, but as the night goes on it gets a lot more packed. The menu is smaller but is not missing out on flavor. There are different sliders every week, served with some shoestring fries that are not to be skipped. The quail knot rail bites were delicious, basically just chicken knots with a spicier flavor profile. We also had the flatbread and brocollini fondue (tempura dipped brocollini with a to-die for gouda dipping sauce). But whatever you get I have no doubt that it will leave you wanting to try something else. I wish I could find the words to describe the atmosphere, but it doesn't feel like you're in central Indiana anymore. Love, love, love having this in Carmel. At first I'd thought I'd missed the opportunity to visit during nice weather but alas it's still hopping in the cold. They have an indoor and outdoor venue. The outdoor space utilizes the same heaters as Top Golf with the addition of fire pits. On a 34 degree night I would say there were about 25-30 people sitting outside! The entrance is to the right of the Chophouse, hit floor three and you walk right into the bar. There are options to sit at the bar, tables, outside or little corner nooks. I like trying the cocktails on the menu and have had the Smoked Pineapple and Blueberry Botanical, both were delicious. Another thing I enjoy about this space is that it lends itself to a mix of age groups. Obviously you have to be over 21 but it's nice to have the diversity and trendiness of an upscale bar. The service can be slow, but the quality of the drinks makes up for it usually. They're very inventive and diverse with flavors. It cost me a total of $97 for two drinks and two cover charges. I was disappointed because they should not have charged us the $10 cover charge if we didn't get to have the tarot reader. I am not opposed to paying a premium for a nice drink but I have to pay a cover charge on top of that is extremely disappointing considering we didn't get to see the Taro card reader. If I had more time I would've probably asked to see a manager because it makes no sense to pay for a cover charge in the city of Carmel! read more

Although it was cold out, it was a sunny Sunday in October and I took my wife out for lunch at 3UP. This place is amazing! All four dishes we shared were delicious! The decor was cool and comfy, and the bright sun, combined with the fire pits, kept us warm as the building blocked the wind. I wasn't sure about the parking, so I grabbed free street parking across Main Street. I found out that there is free parking in the attached garage south of the restaurant/bar. (Take the alley on the west side of the building to reach it.) The front door isn't marked very well other than a small stand. Just look for the entrance to Anthony's Chophouse and use the doors to the right. Once inside, take the elevator on the right side up to the 3rd floor. The bar and dining areas were very cool and comfy. The east wall is all windows, one large section even opens to let in the fresh air. But what sold us was the great atmosphere of the patio. It truly sets this place apart from most bars. The south wall is a vertical plant wall with over 1000 plants during growing season. The patio furniture is set up in several groups. We selected one with a fire pit. They also have couches with big pillows as well. Our waiter (Vanand!) did a great job of keeping an eye on us and made some good recommendations. What we found out was that nearly everything on the menu is large enough to be shared. So, ordered three items (they all came out at the same time, so if you want to pace your food, let the waiter know.) I started with the Burrata. Wow! So good! A large dollop of burrata cheese, over tomato chutney with pearl onions, colorful and crispy arugula, and slices of toasted garlic bread. Great flavor and textures. Be sure to eat with the arugula on top. This may have been my favorite dish. I also ordered the Shaved Brussels. These were so good that my wife even ate them! They shave and cook the sprouts and then add candied bacon, walnut, raisins, and top them with a lemon poppy vinaigrette. So many flavors and they all worked. Just a bit of tartness from the dressing, and sweetness from the bacon and raisins. Lots of savory too. Any the plate was really large....definitely too much for one person. My wife wanted to try the UP Nachos which come out on a 15" oval platter! They include braised short ribs (just a tad under seasoned), white cheddar, queso, sliced raw serrano peppers, green onion, cherry tomatoes, beans, and lime sour cream over house made potato crisps (chips). The meat was tender and bite sized. Some chips got a little soggy, but I was surprised how crisp most of them stayed. The other flavors all worked together too! I had to try one of the desserts, so we split the Apple Pie Rangoon which comes with six rangoon stuffed with spiced apples that were steaming hot. And they come with a caramel dipping sauce that is warmed so that you can actually dip your treats without them sticking or breaking. So good. Did I mention they have powdered sugar on top? The night I went, it suddenly started raining and we were still really comfortable. I'm a big fan of the decor. There's a mix of high tops, tables, and comfy couches and chairs, pick your poison. Speaking of, the menu has something for everyone. For starters, I sipped on the HARBINGER OF HEAT, it's their take on a margarita, with an added kick of spice. We started out grazing on a charcuterie board, it was pretty standard but definitely the way to go if you're not sure on food. We decided to move on to something a little more filling-steak frites and the ahi tuna flatbread. Both were good, the flatbread left a little to be desired. The crust was more like a big cracker than a flatbread. The steak was good, but beware if you're a picky eater, it comes topped with a mushroom cream sauce. Ambience and setting is amazing with a mix of indoor/outdoor seating, fire pits and of course a reasonable view from the balcony. Drinks were ok they have a limited signature cocktail menu which at $14 a cocktail seems a little overpriced since they're not overly complicated or fancy. Night we went they didn't have two of the signatures available and didn't have some drafts on tap either. Food I wasn't impressed with $29 for a charcuterie board which looked like a glorified lunchable, with about six crackers and basic meat and cheese served on a plate. Could at least serve it on a cutting board and with some fruits to dress it up for the price. Sliders were good but menu makes it confusing on how many you order.
