My favorite product of theirs is the Hop On Hop Off Double Decker bus tour. They are a great way to get acquainted with a new city, and learn a lot about the city while doing so. It is a great way to get to the place you probably are already planning on visiting, since they stop at the most popular sights. The SF tour includes: Fisherman's Wharf, North Beach, Chinatown, Union Square, the Ferry Building, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Palace of Fine Arts, and many of the popular parks. This SF branch also offers an Alcatraz tour you can purchase as a package with your Hop On Hop Off ticket. I recommend this company to anyone who is visiting SF or even for residence who just want to play tourist for the day.

There was a long line to acquire your receipts and payments, but the bus was on time. The tour driver was very fun, very loud, and very informative of the areas we visited. The hop on, hop off worked great and allowed us to see and spend more time in the areas we really wanted to see. This tour would have been 5 stars but except for the operator who drove us back to our hotels. This guy got lost and couldn't find half of the hotels. He asked us to take out our phones to use as GPS's, and got very snippy with some of the passengers. Bad ending to a great day.

How can one love a city and its people if you don't know it? Though it's not my vocation, I've been privately asked by tour companies and many groups to give tours (mainly for students and non-tourists), and have done so for over a thousand people. All that to say, I'm steeped in San Francisco more than the average person taking a tour. I believe in constantly learning about San Francisco and occasionally take tours myself. I took two tours, the Castro, and the Haight, with Mar leading each of them. She was clearly visible and identifiable. She clearly was very knowledgeable, as most tour guides are. But more than that, like a good song, she made the tour her own. I could tell she invested herself into the stories and facts; Mar drew me in. The tours were not just a bunch of random facts and sound bites. Speaking about sound bites, I loved how MAr integrated music into her Haight tour. I noted her bluetooth speaker and inquired if that was "standard issue." Turns out she invested in her own weatherproof model so her tours would not be affected by the rain. The best part apart the tours was being led by someone who is secure in who they are. That's who MAr is, and that made all the difference. I knew a lot of things in San Francisco. When we played "name that tune" in the Haight, I knew the songs within a couple notes, but none of this phased MAr. It could make others feel insecure. in the end, I was able to learn so much more about these two San Francisco neighborhoods and their people. I learned about many more facets of beauty. As guy who regularly gets asked to do tours myself, I'm so glad I got to take the "tourist" seat with Mar. Walking is the best way for these neighborhood tours, to see, smell, and feel the stories of humanity. So glad I got to walk these two hoods with Mar! She's been the warmest, most personable guide I've ever had. -- Steve

Since we were in SF for one day, we selected two tours that worked around our visit. The site was easy to use and descriptions of the tours helped with making the arrangements easy. Both the tours we went on were conducted by Mar. Mar was super enthusiastic and full of information as we walked through the Haight Ashbury neighborhood, feeding us tidbits of information as we walked and chatted about the 60's and what an impact that era had on the city. I love that time period, especially the music, and as we walked we listened to that history and saw the houses that some of these legends lived in. The next tour took us through the Mission District were Mar gave descriptive insight to the beautiful murals that are on every corner and every alley; I enjoyed her passion and knowledge that she shared. Eating your way through SF is something I always do, so this was a great tour for me, the food was fabulous and the whole experience makes you want to come back for more! Walking through the neighborhoods is also very satisfying, you are doing something healthy, it gets you involved; Mar was also great at pulling you in and involving you in her tour. I would and have recommended these tours to others; by the way, ask for Mar and you'll have a GREAT time! Enjoy. CS Santa Cruz, CA

Mining Exchange Museum - Watch each of the videos to learn about the history and the restoration process

Friends have often observed that I notice and read everything. I assumed everyone else did the…read moresame but have come to learn that they don't. So if you're one of them, chances of you ever stumbling upon the Mining Exchange Museum are slim to none. Even if you're one who falls into my camp, you'd stumble upon the Mining Exchange Museum only by chance and by chance, I mean that you will notice the small POPOS plaque as you walk by the Bush Street address. POPOS, for those who don't already know, is an acronym which refers to "Privately Owned Public Open Spaces". Such spaces are essentially trade-offs that developers have made with the city. That is: they can build as delineated, but they must also provide some open space on-site, available to all. Currently there are over 50 such spaces, most in the downtown area. The Mining Exchange Museum is one of the more recently opened POPOS. 350 Bush Street has a storied history but the building itself was long in disrepair. Several years back, architectural preservationists undertook efforts to restore what could be and build a high-rise behind the facade. In exchange, we the people got a small museum which documents the process and a huge "living room" to hang out in. All of this is worth seeing. Enter from Bush Street and immediately to your left is the small museum. I'd recommend you watch all of the videos (4 or 5) to learn about the space and its history. They're short and clear and interesting, after which you should turn around and make your way deeper into the building. It is there that you will observe the work you've just seen described, as you step into the huge (enclosed) open space that's been outfitted with some artwork and many seating areas. Above you is the stunning ceiling, fully restored. Clean restrooms are available for your use in this POPOS and you'll likely have the entire giant room to yourself, so think ahead what you might wish to do there. Read a book? Eat your lunch? Play a board game with friends? The space is open weekdays from 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. It's lovely, immaculate, huge, quiet, and - based on my visit - vastly underutilized. If you're downtown and free during the week the Mining Exchange Museum is a great place to experience a little peace and quiet.

It's not your typical tour--you're not stuck behind glass or packed into a big group. The city is right there around you, and everything feels more alive; almost cinematic. The whole experience was super easygoing and fun! We covered a lot without it ever feeling rushed, and there were plenty of chances to stop, take photos, and just enjoy where we were. Some of our favorite moments were actually the unexpected spots we never would've found on our own, like the beautiful, yet uncrowded overlook on Telegraph Hill. Everything felt really natural--nothing scripted or forced. Just a great mix of interesting stories, local insight, and a lot of laughs along the way. Chad made the tour phenomenal. He brought brought great energy and enthusiasm to the experience, which made it even more enjoyable without ever feeling over the top. And the bus itself is half the experience! It's such a vibe--people smiling, waving, even taking pictures as you drive by. It adds this extra layer of fun you just don't get anywhere else. By the end, it felt like we experienced San Francisco in a way you can't do anywhere else. So if you're even thinking about it, just book it. Totally worth it!! -Mark & Gina, Kansas, USA.
