All were doing the 1/4 mile race. There are even juniors racing their cars. In the back there were trucks and jeeps racing through mud/dirt which was pretty cool. It is a BYOB so keep that in mind. If you get too close the starting line bring some ear protection!

And this town has a lot of it: an early Mississippi River fort, Shaeffer fountain pen invention, a steel plow patent, use of early fire fighting equipment, chemicals, ice harvesting and mother of pearl button industries on the Mississippi, and even a connection to Betsy Ross. The historical society is housed in a vintage Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe (AT & SF) depot, with three sets of active railroad tracks right out the door. No charge but cash donations are appreciated and needed.

There is about 90-minutes of activities here including several rooms with different themes like barracks, hospital, kitchen and an office from pioneer days. It's very well cared for, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and there is a small gift shop. In addition to the fort, you can see a Santa Fe / Burlington train engine, a fountain, and the Mississippi River all from the same parking lot. Pack a lunch, grab your camera and come check this place out - it's really fun.

There was some extremely trashy/weird art on the wall and the clientele seems to match. The outdated techno coming from the "DJ" was a fitting backdrop to a giant screen that seemed to be projecting someone's Internet search. I opted to sit far away from that mess, right next to a giant fan that was off until I went returned from the bathroom and it had been turned on full blast and stood in place of my chair. Good incentive for dancing perhaps, but I took it as a hint to get some fresh air...far away from this bar. Might be better on a slower, more mellow night.
