This charming space packs a lot of punch -- from historic "Diableries" of the Victoria Era, to lenticular Wonder Woman comics, to Nosferatu.

Parking was $19.00 for the first three hours with validation. The art museum is truly a gem of Los Angeles. It can be challenging to reserve tickets because open time slots fill up quickly, especially during the summer months when many people are on vacation. The artwork on display is mesmerizing, beautiful, and thought-provoking. Personally, I appreciated every single piece of art I observed, as so much work, love, and dedication went into each item on display that one can only wonder what the artists were thinking or feeling as they created their masterpieces. The entire museum is well-maintained, spotless, and fun. Security is extremely important, as evidenced by the many staff members closely monitoring the large crowds around each section of the museum. Staff members are also there to answer any questions. I wish to rerun here very soon with family and friends, as our visit was educational, inspiring, and fun.

Even though the museum is free, I suggest getting tickets on line to reserve a timed-entry in advance, It does get crowded. I did notice that there are some exhibits that require a separate paid ticket. Parking was $29 unless validated. Then it dropped down to $19. Definitely worth visiting. You won't be disappointed.

My cousin told me about it, and she lives so far away, and I've had lived here all my life and never knew about it. They had really great accessible features for anyone that is handicap. It's really clean, and it's so cool getting to learn about others and how they passed away, not to mention, understand my own life and put it in perspective. I really appreciate them making my night.

The staff are soo unbelievably rude, obnoxious, creepy, possibly racist and just straight up distatesful asf. The amount of "jokes" I heard coming the two employees with long hair, pertaining to the victims was disturbing. Those same employees also felt the need to follow me around for some odd reason which made me very uncomfortable to the point I almost walked out. I respectfully approached one and asked was there a downstairs to which he snapped, "yeah we have a downstairs" in a very dismissive and rude tone. Lol alright buddy, not sure who pissed in his Cheerios or stole the meth he obviously smokes from the looks of (it?) him. Try rehab, friend :) There were also some pretty loud and obnoxious guests, who kept making it hard for some of us to concentrate, and while I understand the museum can't exactly control who they get as a guest, I was hoping at least ONE staff member would tell them to keep the noice down. Nope! Instead they followed the quiet girl around and allowed the hyenas to roam thru the museum making crass jokes. It's funny I just realized I've already written three paragraphs before I actually got to talk about the museum contents so I'll make this short. Blood, guts, porn and more blood. While I did learn some things, I was expecting a lot more for $21 fridgin dollars. Most of the stuff in there could've been found on Reddit. Welp I crossed this off my list and regretfully so. Save your time and money.

If we had a problem with a photo booth, they'd help us immediately and were overall friendly. Tonight was a completely different experience. I have friends visiting from out of town and we were celebrating something special. We were just excited and laughing and saw there were people at the desk so we didn't realize that there was a designated exit door. We walked in and immediately got greeted with a hostile "excuse me this is the exit door" so we went out back around the front even though the desk area/museum wasn't crowded and it's a bit confusing considering their exit door faces their parking lot. I don't want to get into details too much but the girl with glasses and wavy hair was especially rude.. but they were selective with who they were being rude to. There were times when we'd stand and wait in front of them to either ask for something (the lil photo strip holder) or purchase something and both times it took them awhile to acknowledge us because they would both be extremely friendly to other patrons. At one point we stood in front of the Asian female employee for a solid 5 min waiting to purchase the photo strip magnets because they were both too busy laughing & talking to another couple and wouldn't acknowledge us. We could not get a smile out of those girls and the vibe was just... so weird. Like I wish the owner would watch the cameras (you can see when I finally got upset too) to see the difference in treatment we received and I honestly have no idea why we received the attitude. I'm glad we didn't have any problems with the machines today because I would have absolutely hated to ask help from either of those girls. There are a couple of bad reviews on here talking about the bad customer service from "blank Gen Z stare" to "being condescending" and I wouldn't be surprised if those reviews were about the same employee.

The exhibits were fantastic. MOCA focuses on contemporary art, so you'll find everything from bold abstract paintings and large-scale installations to sculptures, video art, and thought-provoking mixed-media pieces. I love that contemporary art invites you to interpret it for yourself. Some works made me stop and think, while others were simply fun to experience. It was a nice balance of playful, emotional, and thought-provoking. The museum itself is quiet and easy to explore. It never felt crowded, so I could actually spend time with the artwork instead of feeling rushed from room to room. I also really enjoyed the gift shop. They had a fantastic selection of art books and exhibition catalogs that were honestly hard to resist. They also carried plenty of fun collectibles, including lots of reasonably priced Smiskis, which made me smile. Overall, this is an amazing free museum and an easy recommendation if you're in Downtown LA. Whether you're already into contemporary art or just curious to try something different, it's well worth stopping by.
