Ok, for full disclosure, this was somewhat of a location decision as it was within a stone's throw…read morefrom my hotel. However, it's worthy of more than just a convenience stop, it's nice!
Furthermore, while I'm getting the disclaimers out of the way, I'm generally not the sort to seek out an American themed restaurant while in France. There's just something so cliche about that, ya know? Nevertheless, after several days of nothing but traditional French cuisine, I was ready for a burger.
So let's talk about that, shall we? Big, juicy, GREAT fries! That question still lingers though, by the way. Are fries in France French Fries? Hmm?
Anyway, a glitch, which I'll take full responsibility for, was when asked "How would you like that cooked?" I responded with, pink in the middle. Well, their version of pink and traditional American pink in the middle are vastly different. Wow, it was pink! I'd venture to say it was werewolf approved pink in the middle.
Nevertheless, still good, and great fries! I paired it with a couple of IPA's that were from California. Side note: Let's just say the French make awesome wine, but their beer making abilities, well they have that wine thing figured out. Let's just leave it at that, shall we? Mind you, I've been spending the last six months in Germany, and there's really no comparison. The Germans make great cars and beer, fact!
The ambiance? Yep! Exactly what you'd expect for a placed called "Old School Cafe." The walls were adorned with Music/Rock memorabilia and nonstop American rock playing. It truly is the epitome of an American Diner. So, why no English menu? Well, I'll assume the whole appeal of the decor and vibe is aimed at the locals. However, they should consider an English menu. Thank goodness one of the employees was pretty fluent and translated the menu for me.
Overall, I liked it! Once again, I'm not a fan of visiting American themed restaurants in France, or any other country for that matter, as I think you need to soak in the local flavor and culture, but this place will still satiate any hungry patron I'm certain.
Give them a try, you'll be glad you did.
