I had been looking for clear suit bags for about a week, and just because I was passing by. I ended up walking out with half a dozen bits and pieces, things I had forgotten I even needed. The owner was a great laugh, joking with everyone in the shop.

The Discount Clearance Centre on Mahoneys road just opposite Forest Hill Chase is huge. They have a…read morelarge range of privately sourced stock that is on sale for generously discounted prices. While I was there I saw almost twenty couches, beds, bicylces, a few coffee tables and a variety of home decor items. It seems to be a family run business and they are so new to the area that they are yet to set up a phone line. The people I spoke to there were absolutely lovely and were super helpful when it came to answering my questions. Whilst they are still setting up, I can hedge a bet that this store is going to be quite good. Stock changes regularly and they have a sale board out the front where they write up a bargain of the day. Keep your eyes peeled on this one.

It stocks your typical junky store items like stickers, toys, Tupperware items, birthday cards and wrapping paper. My favourite item was a coin purse made out of a tiny sock. It was only $3 and really cute. I also found a pretty random Scooby Doo Whoopy Cushion. I left it behind because it's really not a good idea for me to own one of those... my friends would kill me! The customer service here is friendly enough. The staff member stayed behind the counter while I browsed and he greeted me with a smile when I first walked in. The prices are really low and the items to be found are more original than most similar variety shops. It's worth a visit for some cheap knick-knacks.

Croydon Clearance Centre has got to be the place to go for cheap costumes! You know, pirates,…read moremaids, peter pan, Marilyn Monroe... get my drift? Normally these can be found for around $40 pretty much anywhere, but in this shop there are all $20 and under! You can tell I am seriously impressed by this. The rest of the shop had all the standard $2 shop type objects. There were fake flowers, bracelets and necklaces for only $4 as well as a large variety of home objects such as tupperware containers and sponges. The store is quite large and is completely packed full of objects at really low prices. There were a few tacky objects but in this kind of shop its expected. The staff were hard at work when I went in but the lady at the counter was quite helpful and friendly.

It doesn't smell. It is staffed by friendly and welcoming people. It is spacious without looking cavernous. It is clean, not dusty and everything is presented well. I know it doesn't sound like much but variety shops are so often cluttered messes with dust, bad smells and god knows what lurking in them. In this store you are guaranteed to find something you might like and be greeted with a smile. Stock aside, it is already a winner in my book. But, the stock here is pretty good too. They have a wide range of everything they carry, which includes: Pet toys. Party supplies. Stickers. Cards. Homewares. Stationery. And much more. I will definitely be returning when I need something in those categories.

No one likes watching fights between customers and service staff. More especially, no one likes…read morebeing drawn into them simply because they are next in line. This happened the last time I visited Common Cents in Wantirna Mall and it was exceptionally awkward. The service staff had charged the customer too much for their items and the customer cracked it. The pair were arguing for a good ten minutes while I stood behind tapping my foot and waiting to be served. It was frustrating as the service staff member was obviously wrong yet she wouldn't admit it - so much for the customer always being right. The store itself was pretty messy with a dirty sheet blocking off the end of one aisle. Stock in here is typical of any two dollar/homewares style shop with cheap vases, floor mats, buckets, plastic kids chairs and stickers. When I got served and asked for the shops phone number the service staff member was extremely evasive and unhelpful. This was very frustrating. She eventually gave me a 'temporary' number after I said I might want to order something. That is the number I have listed above. Somehow I don't see myself returning to the shop or ordering anything. Browsing the store and being served were both unpleasant experiences.

You will almost always find a few bargains for yourself or a gift for someone else. There are three similar shops along this strip and they are all well worth checking out. I love checking out NQR every now and then for the completely random range of items they stock…read more Although you cant bet on finding a winner every time, I usually leave with a swag of food, whether it be favourites for a discounted price, or something I haven't seen before that grabs my attention. Great for if you are having a party and need to stock up on finger food and dips etc, as the stuff is ready to eat and you'll save a bunch of great food that people are most likely going to devour whilst drunk. Basically, if you don't know how it works, NQR get regular brands of food, drinks, groceries and alcohol and sell them really cheap. These are brands you'll know of that might only have a month left on the expiry, or wound up here because they weren't selling well. However they get here is none of my business, all I'm concerned about is the fun of finding bizarre food items and buying them.
