Wow, I felt like my head was a peice of art let alone getting my hair cut. Talk about first impressions, this one will last for a lifetime. Taylor saw my hair as a project, and perfected it to his masterpiece. The hairline has no beggining and no end, the way a fade should be. He topped it all off with a style and razor finish, keeps me lookin just so fresh and so clean. I think he may have stolen business away from my regular stylist. Time to jam out to some OutKast in my new-do. read more

1st Ave Barber Shop - I never thought my hair could look this good. - Barbers Near Me - Calgary, Alberta

Short story: This is a great and very reasonable barber shop. You won't regret going. Longer story: I've been going to 1st Ave Barber Shop for a while now and without a doubt, it's my favorite place for a guys haircut in Calgary. Not only that, it's CHEAP! It's truly a man cave walking in there. They have an HDTV to keep you occupied as you wait. Ari (the owner) is a super nice young dude and usually offers you coffee or water when you walk in. I usually get a pomp and for some reason, it's a hard cut for a lot of people to get right but, every time I go here, they get it perfect. Both barbers have cut my hair, and they both do it exactly the same. This is something totally unheard of. Oh, and did I mention a haircut is $25? Not only that, but it's one of the very few places in Calgary that you can get a proper shave. I've gotten the traditional shave ($26) before and it was awesome. Check their website for a list of services. read more

Great cut at a reasonable price. I got my sides and back done for $18. The barber, whose name I don't remember, was a young Ethiopian guy who did a nice job listening to what I wanted and took his time doing the job right. I don't live in Calgary but would recommend this place to anyone looking to get a classic men's haircut. The only reason I rated them 4 stars instead of 5 is that I needed some pomade as I'm almost out and their price for Layrite was $20, which is much more expensive than I've ever seen it. It's usually around $16. read more

1st Ave Barber Shop - Fade done right! - Barbers Near Me - Calgary, Alberta

Had a great head shave and beard trim from Aaron. Great on the details and easy going. Whole shop overall is what you would expect in a barber shop just without all the fuss. Laid back atmosphere. Do get an appointment though. Thanks guys! read more

Got the worst haircut I have ever had on Monday. Scared, ugly, and scrambling I popped into 1st ave to ask for help. Dan sat me down and gave my butchered head new life. Will be coming back for sure! -Jordan read more

This just in from the, " Woo, Did I make a Mistake" file! Wanted to take Granpa Don, 89, for a haircut yesterday. Made a booking at " 1st Ave Barber Shop " in Bridgeland. Phoned ahead to make sure the apt. was still on because moving Dad in his wheel chair is not easy. When we arrived a young guy, who was obviously raised by righteous caring parents, came outside to help me carry Dad in. " Thanks Buddy "!! Not a wink, a nod or a smile from anyone working there. We sat down at 2:06 for our 2 pm apt. What followed was unbelievable. So there I sat with Dad, not one of the "Stylists" ( Barbers ) would even make eye contact with us because none of them wanted to cut the "Old Mans" hair. Three other people came and went while Dad and I sat for an hour, completely disregarded. Finally after over an hour of waiting it became clear than none of the "boys" wanted to cut Dads hair. It wasn't an $80 haircut and he wasn't tre-Shiek Uber Metro ! So, after making the 89 year old man wait for over an hour, we knew we should leave. So, I had to pick Dad up and carry him across the floor and out the door. Not one person or employee offered or asked to help, even when I was having trouble getting him out the door and into his wheel chair. One guy squeaked " Oh, your Leaving" as I carried him out. It was raining by then so we wheeled our way back to the car and left for back home. No haircut for Dad today. I think he felt embarrassed about the whole ordeal. I thought to myself, how sad, that we " Dad", were treated like that because of his age, disability and the price of his haircut. And I'd made a reservation !! Its good to know that one day, some of these Uber Shiek Ultra Metro Guys will be old, but I doubt they will remember the old guy they didnt want to service. Their memory will be gone by then too! Pathetic the way some people and businesses treat the elderly or disabled. A Pox on you - 1Ave Barber Shop !! read more

1st Ave Barber Shop - Barbers Near Me - Calgary, Alberta

Questionable razor techniques and no hot shaving as advertised. Not recommended.

Great spot to get hair cut and I came all the way from Florida. Very nice barbers, professional, they strike up conversation and accept credit cards. read more

NOT IMPRESSED Hosting our nephew so we thought we would take him for a nice haircut. Upon entering , both husband and nephew are seated immediately . First flag. Clippers come out and 12.5 minutes later both haircuts are complete . With different prices to boot! Husband says this is the norm I think it very unprofessional . Average haircuts at best! Sorry boys we will not be back. read more

Rude and unprofessional. Had an appointment for 2 pm, arrived at 1:50 was told to have a seat and at 2:30 after several other people were taken and I was still ignored, I left. Will not be returning. read more

A really great haircut, but they keep increasing the prices to the point where I found the quality was not worth the cost. I stopped going when it was $40 for a basic haircut; for that I expect a salon quality experience. read more

Came in today for my 3rd cut with Erick, and he nailed it. I haven't had a lot of success with previous barbers here, and got set up with Erick on a walk-in. My first cut was great, booked with him for a 2nd cut, it was perfect, and now 3rd. Erick is a true professional and has a solid understanding of how to retain clientele. read more

Got a cut here early July 2016, during stampede I think. First time there and only went based on Yelp reviews. Got one of the best cuts I've ever had. Was very impressed, and I highly recommend it. I'm from out of town, but if I'm back in YYC and need a cut I'll definitely be back. read more

To be honest, 1st Ave Barber Shop could be my new list to get my classic hair cut done. At the cost of $25 it was a good reasonable price including minor knife blade shave behind my neck. The barbers are young mid-twenties staff but, they are well-trained and skillful like other old barber shop. I need to minus one star because their debit terminal was down, so I need to go next door bank to get cash. read more

Whats the point of booking an appointment when the barbers are never available for the slot you book? This is my 6th time here and was taken in once on time, rest of the 5 times had to wait for over 30 mins. They provide good service, but if you think you can stay can schedule by going here - I recommend going somewhere else. read more

The barbers here are amazing!! super meticulous in their work (my barber spent an hour and 30 mins for a simple fade) and are also pretty friendly and welcoming. would recommend booking an appointment as this place is pretty popular. it is a bit pricey but please at least give this place a try!! read more

Hubby was really impressed by the close shave. Friendly barbers. Nice shop and reasonable prices.

Took the kid cousin to 1st Ave Barber Shop this afternoon for a hair make-over... just in time for his grade 9 grad. Great experience for him, minus the walk-in wait, which means people are willing to wait... which is a good sign. :-) This place is pretty busy, men waiting for their turn. Total cost came surprisingly cheap including tip. Definitely will take the kid cousin back. read more

I used their online booking system which I thought was great. I showed up a couple minutes early and I was told that Nigel wasn't there yet but was on his way. 25 minutes later he hadn't show up. Of course the other barbers we're all booked up. Someone who I assumed was the manager apologized and basically said tough luck. Won't be going back... read more

Great Barber Shop, Got an awesome beard cut from Erick, super cool guy, brought out all the cool tools and brought his A-game to do my beard. Provided some nice advice. Would totally recommend this barber shop and would definitely recommend the services of Erick. read more

Really disappointed with my experience here this week. Went in for a haircut and beard trim and Taylor was 20+ minutes behind schedule. It happens, I get it - but why it happened was obvious a little later on. He asked me what I wanted done with my hair and I said simply: short, fade on the sides starting with a .5 and a bit longer on top; styled messy. He started with the fade and I thought he would then ask about the beard before he started on it. Nope. I had a fairly long beard when I sat down, and he quickly took a razor without a guard to it and brought it down almost to the skin. I was shocked - it wasn't what I wanted and he never asked. At this point, it was too late to do anything about it so I let him continue. Throughout the haircut there many times I'd have my eyes closed to avoid getting hair in them - only to be left waiting for him to continue cutting, wondering what he was doing. I'd open an eye to see what was going on and he was watching TV! This happened at least 10 times I'd guess. No wonder he was behind on schedule. When all was said and done, the fade that was done on the side of my head away from the window was brutal - I'm going to have to go elsewhere this week to get it fixed. The side towards the light was done properly. My beard had been turned into a pointy monstrosity with the most crooked neck line I'd ever seen. I have no choice but to either shave it off or let it grow out and fix it in a couple of weeks. And to top it all off, he non-stop talked about 'Connor' and other NHL players by their first names the entire time. Who does that? We're in Calgary bud - I don't give a f*ck about your Oilers, and no one uses first names. Jesus, what a brutal hour at 1st Ave Barber Shop. Won't be back. read more

Great place to get a fresh cut. My regular go to spot for a haircut. Service is always great and easy to book appointments etc. online.

This is a genuine barber shop in all the right ways. You get seen in the order you arrive, watch sports and chat about your day while you wait, then sit down for a well crafted cut and groom. Highly recommend. read more

I made a reservation through the online system for the Royal Treatment at 12:30pm. The online system assigned me to Assad. I took time off work to go and showed up 5 minutes prior too my scheduled appointment. I was asked to sit and wait. I waited 30 minutes. Not once was I acknowledged by the person who was assigned to cut my hair. Or anyone else for that matter after I sat down. In fact a walk in was given priority over me when it states that those with reservations get priority. I decided to leave and actually if I didn't I would have been late back to work and would likely have received a parking ticket. I was recommended by a friend and customer of this facility, which is disappointing to him and I. I didn't feel welcome there at all. I can only surmise they are happy with their customer base and aren't interested in gaining new customers. I have to give a Star in order to post this review. Can't say it is even warranted. read more

I swear by this barber shop and will not go anywhere else. I would rather not get a cut unless I can get into 1st Ave Barber shop. I usually deal with Arey, but all the other guys are also really good. At first Arey was just my barber but over the years we have become good friends. Reasonable prices and a great atmosphere. Last time I was in there Shane Monahan and Bob Hartley came in! If you like the fade and an authentic hot shave experience visit the boys at 1st Ave barber shop and you will not be disappointed! Thanks guys and keep up the good work read more

Great haircuts, fades, etc... Just a bit pricey. Ask for Dan! Best damn fades in all of Calgary!!!!

Fantastic service and great hair cut. Have only been there once, but will definitely go back. Did I mention the fantastic service?

I am from Toronto and I have never received a better haircut in my life. They know exactly what to do. Choosing another barber would be a mistake. Best barbers ever. read more

This would have been my third time at the barber shop, but had to go elsewhere because of an error with the online booking system. Each time i booked, there was a problem with the system not giving confirmation of the appointment, but i was assured it was going to be fixed and working properly right away. So for convinience, i booked online once again - no confirmation. (Stupid me) Came to the barber 20 mins early to be told my time had been missed. Now of course, there were no times available except with the rookie/flunky sitting playing games on his cell phone on the couch looking like he needed a haircut more than anyone else in the building... No thanks ill try my luck elsewhere .. Too bad too because i was really trying hard to like this place. read more
