This is an Indy hidden gem. Feeling like St. Elmo but don't want to get all dolled up, then this is the perfect place to come. Located upstairs in the St.Elmo building it's a whole different vibe. Cocktail waitress, light music playing, a couple tv's showing various games and a limited bar menu makes this place perfect for guys/girls night out, couples night, or even a couple drinks before other dinner plans. It isn't the largest space which is one of the reasons it offers so much charm but on the flip side it can be difficult to get in. It's all open seating so you have to watch for people getting their check and leaving. There is valet parking if you are like me and don't want to mess with trying to find parking on the street. Just a dew blocks away from the Fieldhouse & Pan-Am Plaza, it's surprisingly still a hidden gem. What I love about 1933 is the quick-bites menu, which features some St. Elmo's favorites. This is a hidden gem in Indy that I honestly would like for it to stay hidden! As much as I use Yelp to find my dinner options when traveling for work, this never came up until I stayed at close to it. There is valet parking in front of the restaurant for a fee or plenty of public parking since it is close to many hotels, convention centers and Lucas Stadium. First things first, the lounge is upstairs from St. Elmo's. The very first time I tried to come, GPS definitely gave me a fit trying to find it. There's no huge indicator on the building, you only see St. Elmo's, but once you get close, you see on 1933 Lounge on the door. Once you go upstairs, it's a way different atmosphere than St. Elmo's. Way more speakeasy and laid back. Real cool and unpretentious, but not dive bar. All the dark wood that you would expect in a speak easy, along with tvs to watch sports! There's a really nice bar along with several tables that are seat yourself, for the most part. There's really not much space for large parties. It's the perfect space have drinks while you wait for your table downstairs or you can select from a short list of available BUT VERY GOOD menu items. Since I'm typically traveling by myself for work, I always stay in the lounge and eat. When I tell you that you're not missing out on hardly anything by staying in the lounge, I mean that! Now if you want a big dry aged steak then you want to eat downstairs, but if you just want to get out have top notch service, really good drinks and great food, 1933 Lounge is definitely my choice every time! The waygu and brie slider is soooo good, that you definitely need to order multiple! And their chopped salad and house dressing are my favorite!! I love this place so much that on my monthly trip to Indy I always say I'm going to try new places, but I end up at the lounge at least once during my trip and sometimes more than once! read more

What a fantastic place to grab a cocktail, enjoy a steak, and unwind on a Friday night! I was elated that I was able to make same day reservations to 1933 via Open Table so we could properly celebrate my boyfriend's big promotion. We are MEGA fans of St Elmo's so we decided to go outside the box and try one of their other venues. So glad we did! It's marketed as "a casual St Elmo's," but the term "casual" is used very loosely. The decor, service, and quality of dining and drinks is top notch! We were pleasantly surprised to find that they offered the same food and drink menu as St Elmo's with quite a few additions. My boyfriend went with his usual prime rib and mash red potato. His medium rare cut completely melted in our mouths. (Yes, I had to steal some bites!) He also always orders the Lemondrop cocktail that was pleasantly tart and strong like we would get at St Elmo's. I went with the Wagyu burger and Caesar salad that hit the spot! My Bermuda Triangle cocktail was EVERYTHING!! Like I could not give it a "mmmmm" after every sip. I would literally go there just for this drink. Our server was delightful and helped me pick a cocktail after explaining my palate. Nailed it! Oh, and don't forget to get the signature shrimp cocktail! Fire as always! My friends took me here on my recent trip to Indianapolis, they were raving about the shrimp cocktail... 1933 Lounge definitely lived up to its hype! It is super cozy inside, there is fireplace going and lots of seating available. We came on a rainy Sunday evening so we were able to find seats immediately, I ordered the Matcha Martini, "World Famous" St. Elmo Shrimp Cocktail, Two Sliders with Mac & Cheese and Oysters Rockefeller. The Matcha Martini was delicious, I could taste the Matcha :) The Shrimp Cocktail was amazingggg! One bite and my sinuses were cleared :P If you do not like spice or the taste of horseradish I would advise against ordering this. The appetizer comes with four huge pieces of shrimp drenched in their fiery cocktail sauce. This is a must have for any first timers like myself. The Two Sliders we chose were Wagyu and Filet, both were good, but I was more a fan of the Wagyu. The Mac & Cheese was very creamy and cheesy, no complaints there. The Oysters Rockefeller I was not a huge fan of honestly... the spinach and cream were overwhelming and I barely tasted the oyster. Overall, the food was good, but the Shrimp Cocktail is on a whole other level of deliciousness! Staff were friendly, we were checked on multiple times throughout our visit. There's a smaller menu than St Elmo's downstairs but you can still snag they're famous shrimp cocktail, which will make you cry! And after you've wiped the tears from your eyes, don't miss the mac n cheese, charcuterie plate or sliders! The whiskey list is beyond complete, and they have more barrel picks than I've seen anywhere. And they are sooo good. The signature Elmo cola is a great choice if you're more of a cocktail drinker. They also have some wine and beer selections. To get there, enter St Elmo's but walk right past the host stand down the hallway on the right and up the stairs. COVID and riots took out some of downtown's long-time establishments like The Ram. 1933 Lounge steps in to fill that gap. The only downside is that Huse Culinary needs to up their marketing game for this. The Facebook page for 1933 Lounge only ever mentions the Fishers location and the St. Elmo page occasionally confusingly mentions the offer which is not available downstairs at St. Elmo. I have taken customers here before Colts games several times in the past year. This is the perfect pre-game location with a variety of seating including highback chairs by a fireplace or a couch and separate seating. You can have two groups together at one table while remaining socially distant. Although the space is new, it still has a very classic feel with dark wood paneling, leather seating and it feels lively because each group is given adequate space. The food is a little bit lighter fare than downstairs but it is still the same quality ingredients. You can get filet sliders (or even wagyu beef) and, of course, the famous shrimp cocktail and any of the cocktails or beer. It's possible to have lunch and a couple of drinks for $25 per person. This is my new pre-game and I'm very happy with it. read more

In town for work and staying at the Omni hotel, this downtown staple was in walking distance. I walked into St. Elmo's to have a drink at the bar and it was PACKED around 6:30 so the hostess recommended I go upstairs to the lounge. So glad I did as it was empty and felt almost like a secret hidden gem. I started with a lemon drop martini, perfectly made! Next I had to try the infamous shrimp cocktail. The house mouse horseradish sauce was so strong, it literally brought tears to my eyes. That did not stop me from dousing all 5 shrimp in it. Next I the house chopped salad. It had large pieces of tasty bacon. Following this I tried a filet slider. It was very tender and came with a house made blue cheese that was out of this world good. Only $6!! Last I finished it all with a creme brûlée. You know it's good when you can see the vanilla bean seeds throughout. I came into town with a group of friends for the weekend to watch the colts game. A buddy of mine made reservations for St Elmo's so we thought we'd go a bit early to check out the 1933 lounge before hand. The staff is very rude. I asked the one women for a glass of water and I received an attitude which I wasn't very happy about. i went up to the side of the bar and got my water when I was leaning against the Bar top and was rudely spoken to by the one bartenders, there wasn't a lot of room in this establishment so it's not like I was trying to block the through way. I personally think the staff needs a good talking. Not how you treat people spending their hard earned money. I'm hoping that the GM or manager reads this. 1933 Lounge will always be my go to for snacking before or after an event. I love the mood right by the fireplace if you can't catch those seats open. We got there early upon opening. The oyster Rockefeller is top 2 of anywhere in the city and you'll never catch me not ordering it. It's so very delicious. We tried the chicken lollipops and they were JUICY. St Elmo isn't really an everyday kind of place, but 1933 Lounge certainly could be. Imagine a dimly lit bar, couches and bar tables scattered about, a nice fire going and cocktail waitresses walking around in red dresses. That's 1933 Lounge! I never stray off my usual here.. an Elmo Cola (Coke and Bourbon with their special cherries) with two filet sliders and mac and cheese. Delicious and it'll only set you back about $25, which is a heck of a lot better than downstairs! read more

Good food and cocktails. Good service too! Basically, it is what you would expect from a lounge under the St Elmo's brand. But like the steak house, it gets too crowded. (Visit the one in Fishers for comparison.) They offer a nice variety of cocktails. I went with the French 75 that is based upon an old recipe from Harry's Bar in Paris. Nice flavor with a hint of lemon and splash of champagne. I also tried the Sesame Seared Sashimi Tuna served over a mound of rice. Excellent flavor when combined with the dipping sauce on the side. But understand that you have to climb a flight of stairs to get here and the lounge is kept very dark with a bit of a reddish lighting. It isn't exactly welcoming to older folks who may have trouble seeing the menu or have mobility problems. (I didn't ask if they have an elevator in St Elmo's, but there wasn't any visible from the lounge.) And because of the tight quarters, it can get loud. The Combine is this week and the crowds have flocked to this casual speakeasy establishment. The environment tonight is male dominated but I think that has more to do with the Combine than the establishment. Patrons are extremely friendly, and although seating is hard to come by the friendly mid-westerners were kind to move out of the way and offer a seat at their shared table/space. The bartender was busy and it took about 10 mins before I was helped. Once served, I found the bartender to be friendly and he made a recommendation that I would have not otherwise known to request. I would highly recommend this place to hang out with friends or to come and just take in the sites and sounds. I was wholly unprepared for the way the recent loss of Rathskeller bartender Wayne Bigbee, gutted me. I've been reflecting on his impact and decided it's simple: people want to feel like someone cares. He showed this in many ways throughout his tenure at the bar. This was my frame of mind when I had the good luck to be cared for by Philip at the 1933 Lounge last night. He exuded good vibes and was both positive and efficient. We were in a hurry to make a show at the Lawn at TCU and Philip was on it! Extra dirty Hendrix martini and shrimp cocktail arrived quickly and started what would be a perfect dining experience. My friend and I both ordered the 2 slider and crab mac and cheese combo. Someone else ran the food, and upon passing by, Philip immediately noticed that I didn't get any crab in my mac and cheese. I probably wouldn't have said anything since we were in a rush, but he didn't even give me time to contemplate what to do before heading to the kitchen and returning with a ramekin of crab! I'm so glad he did- the addition of crab made the dish something I will continue to crave. When he noticed that my friend's beer was taking a little longer than expected, he went to investigate, took it off the bill and brought it anyway! It isn't often that you encounter such attention to details! That, coupled with a friendly and caring demeanor, made Philip really stand out.
