Incredibly authentic Taiwanese restaurant in Fremont, might just be one of my favorite place if I'm ever in the area again. Their portion to price was great - definitely unexpected considering it's still within the Seattle area. The staff is super friendly and very welcoming. They quickly explained its a QR scan and can just place our order from our phones, and if you don't want to do that they'll take down your orders for you. Food quickly came out one by one and they are definitely large portion sizes; I was amazed and shocked considering the price point for them. Really enjoyed everything from the food to the service. The garlic green beans and pork belly were my favorite. I enjoyed the garlic sauce they used on the pork belly as well as the crispy radish. The shrimp on the surface and turf were a little overdone but the broth was amazing. I highly recommend adding the rich broth option for $1. Overall couldn't go wrong with anything on the menu even the boba was delicious. We ordered the fried bao dessert with condense milk is bomb. Idk how they make it but there's little bao dough rolled up in the filling and boy it was sooooo crispy. We posted a photo of our food and got to spin for some freebies! So far I've only come here for their milk tea and snacks. It's the only "boba" place in Fremont so it hits the spot. Their tea is definitely high quality and you can adjust your ice and sweetness level. The prices are standard but a little steep for me considering there's no blending going on - only reason preventing me from coming back more often. I've been here a couple times and everytime am happy with my order. The malatang and other soups are perfect on a cold day and so so comforting! I really enjoyed the mala Udon I got which had so much flavor and was not too spicy. I also really like their beef noodle soup. The inside of the restaurant is small, but the times I have gone, I have not had to wait too long for a table. This is a perfect spot for dinner or lunch if you are in Fremont! While they are known for their special malatang, I personally prefer their other classic Taiwanese dishes like the luroufan (braised minced pork over rice) and beef noodle soup. The braised minced pork over rice is definitely some of the best I have had in the area and the taste is spot on. The beef noodle soup is also good, might honestly be my favorite Taiwanese beef noodle soup in the Greater Seattle area nowadays. The service was really quick and the wait isn't too long. Authentic Taiwanese food right in the center of Fremont. 19 Gold was actually the first restaurant I tried upon moving to Seattle, immediately after getting off the airplane! I've both gotten takeout and dined in this establishment. This time, I dined in for the first time. We came in at a not busy time, around 2 PM on a Monday. So we got seated right away. But if it is busy, they take waitlists through Yelp, so do it on your way over on the app! Or if you forget, there's always the kiosk at the door too. You order by yourself using the QR code on the table and the servers bring you your food. The portions are pretty large! We ordered the pork belly plate, house special soup with super rich broth and vermicelli noodles, and the Taiwanese style braised combo sampler (egg, duck wings, tofu, and intestines). We had to take about half of our soup home and 1/4 of the pork belly plate. Everything tasted delicious, but we thought the sauces for the braised combo and the pork belly was a bit too sweet. We also ordered a sweet osamanthus milk tea with 25% sugar, no ice, and boba. It came in a to-go cup upon request, which I'm very happy for, because I never finish my boba in one sitting. You can also get it in a glass though. It had good tea flavor and it is non dairy. The boba balls themselves were nice and chewy. If you're in a rush, this is a great spot to just grab a boba to-go in the Fremont area! While there isn't any parking at the restaurant, we were able to find street parking relatively easy and close by. read more

I was curious about the craze for malatang, and I found out 19 Gold has them so I decided to give it a try. I chose the mild because I was a bit scared of how spicy it could be. Consequently, I could taste some remnants of spice behind the mild broth but I feel like anyone can tolerate the mild. The beef slices inside malatang was tender and I liked how it had many items in it - there are some fish ball type of toppings in it, which reminded me of oden, which is another Japanese dish. I like how the soup is not heavy at all and I can understand how some people would start thinking about it when it gets cold. I also had the crispy red bean paste pancakes and pork rice, and those were good too! I was impressed by the food here generally. Stopped by here after visiting the Fremont Troll and overall thought it was yummy!! We got the popcorn chicken and beef noodle soup and both came out fast and hot. The popcorn chicken was juicy and crispy but I wish it had some sort of dipping sauce, it would've really added a nice touch. I had a wonderful lunch here last week with a friend. This is one of his favorite restaurants in Fremont and it was definitely a winner. It's in a good location and has a fair bit of street parking nearby. And a little past noon the restaurant was pretty full, with most tables occupied and a background hum of conversation, but quiet enough to carry on a good conversation. The soup was incredibly tasty, with spicy (Mala!) broth that perfectly suited a cold winter day. It has a huge variety of ingredients and tickles the senses with delicious noodles, eggs, fish, and crunchy vegetables that all come together great. We were here for restaurant week so there was a really good deal: one drink, appetizer, main course, and dessert. Everyone got different broths and liked each of theirs. Beware, my friends didn't read the menu properly and they did not realize their malatang had no noodles. Tomato broth is a bit sour but was good -- just don't expect sweet. Rich broth was described as umami. They overall enjoyed their malatangs -- mala was not too overpowering -- and although at disappointed about the lack of noodles, the side of rice was sufficient. Mala udon was good. They were very accommodating and substituted tofu instead of meat (I am vegetarian). I liked the house broth. Chicken and shrimp were both good, shrimp primary flavor is sweet. Golden buns were just ok, probably better hot. Red bean also slightly better than ok, not sure if I would order them again but I wouldn't be mad if someone else wanted to order them. We went around 5:30 on Saturday and there was no wait time. The service is very good and food comes out fast. The star was knocked off for the technology. If it was a one check table, the tech works well but slightly complicated to split bill. Entry requires everyone present to sit. The food came out fast and albeit all too fast. It was difficult enough to eat everything while it was warm. Food itself is up to standards and can't complain. We have been here a few times and the food has always been consistently good. I have tried the Taiwanese beef soup (tasty enough for me to try to make it at home), variations of malatang hot pot (beef is the best meat for it in my opinion, super rich broth was okay, regular is great, udon noodles were delicous), the fried condensed milk buns (too sweet and too much), and the fried red bean pancake (delicious!), milk tea was good. I'm finally writing an update for 19 Gold to address their food. In short, it's awesome. I've returned twice to try different dishes. The food is consistently reliable, and the prices are very reasonable. The only thing that I wish were better are the veggies; more details below. A few things about the restaurant: 1. It is small. Get in, eat, get out. This is not the place to chill and linger. 2. Expect a wait. The food is good, the prices are reasonable, and people know. 3. When your table is ready, they will not seat you until the entire group has arrived. They might give you five minutes if you say one person is looking for parking. But it's a small grace period. Plan for it. 4. Ordering is via the QR code on the table. Don't be shy about interrupting the servers to ask questions; they are happy to answer. The Food (from two different visits): Taiwanese style braised combo platter, $11.95 - 5 Stars My oh my. The braised flavors are legit good. I love this deep, potent, braised flavor. We enjoyed this mixed platter containing duck wings, tofu, egg, and pork intestines. Seafood Lover (vermicelli set in mala broth), $17.85 - 5 Stars So many different ingredients in this noodle soup! The mala flavor is just a bit with all the flavor without the oiliness. Definitely a thumbs up! Beef Noodle Soup, $13.95 - 5 Stars Hubby's favorite, and it's on repeat when he comes here. One of the best in the area. The beef is tender and plentiful. The broth is flavorful. Garlic string beans, $6.95 - 3 Stars Their garlic string beans look like there are lots and lots of garlic, but it doesn't taste like there are lots and lots of garlic. I have to admit I'm disappointed with the flavor. It looks so good. Deep fried flour bun with condensed milk, $6.95 - 5 Stars This thing is pure evil, as in DELICIOUS! Fried dough dipped in condensed milk. Come on! If you want a naughty food, this is a great naughty food to have. Green Onion Pancake, $6.95 - 4.5 Stars Incredibly, incredibly flaky. I suspect the entire thing is deep-fried, as opposed to the more traditional pan-fried. It's also greasier as a result. I wouldn't order this regularly, but it was tasty. Bok Choy with Meat Sauce, $5.95 - 2 Stars We didn't like the garlic string beans from the last visit and tried this instead. It's slightly worse. (facepalm) The meat in the meat sauce is very fatty with chew bits, too. Definitely not getting any veggie with the meat sauce again. Malatang Dumpling Soup, $12.85 - 5 Stars I wanted a smaller soup, and this was perfect. The dumplings are great (flavor, ingredients), and the broth is great, too. Also recommend this one. Taiwanese style braised duck wings, $7.95 - 4 Stars We chose the mixed platter last time, which we liked a lot. This time we opted for a smaller plate and chose duck wings. Turns out when we are eating an entire plate of duck wings between two people, they are quite a test on the molars and jaw muscles. I still like the flavor; I just don't want an entire plate of it. THE BEST Taiwanese mala soup place!! Everyone MUST try it! My favorite dish here is the Mala Udon with sliced beef - if you can handle somewhat spicy food, I would get the super rich broth at level spicy. The soup is SO flavorful and SO rich. The service is also done at the table through an app so it is very fast. The place itself is a little small, but i've never had any wait. You might have a wait time though if you go with any group larger than 4 people. Ambiance is a casual atmosphere! The popcorn chicken is good but not my favorite, sometimes can be a little too crunchy? I have tried the mala soup dumplings as well, i think it's just a few too many soup dumplings. A good medium is to add dumplings into your mala udon soup! They do charge $7 extra though for adding the dumplings just to be ware! This place is one of my favorites for me and my boyfriend on a rainy day! Such a great golden gem in the area! I wish we had more Chinese/Taiwanese places around here that aren't just in the ID and I was excited to discover this spot! The ambiance is charming and welcoming, more modern than most Taiwanese places and the service is ridiculously fast and welcoming! The food was delightful! When the weather gets chilly, I love having spicy soup! I ordered the House Special Malatang, which is packed with your choice of meat (I got beef), a variety of veggies (cabbage, broccoli, corn, lotus root), fish balls, tofu skin, and imitation crab. It also comes with a side of vermicelli noodles or rice. I chose to upgrade to the minced pork rice, which was super tasty and definitely worth the extra $2. For the malatang connoisseurs, the soup is spicy with barely any numbing. The portion is big so I'd recommend coming hungry! It was about $22 after tax and tip, which is pretty good for Seattle. My friends and I heard amazing things about this restaurant and decided to check it out one night. And I gotta say, it definitely lives up the hype! It's located next to Shawn O'Donnell's American Grill and Irish Pub on N 36th St in Fremont. There's only street parking around the area which could be difficult to find during rush hours and very cold weather days (winter is coming!). I got their House Special Malatong Combo with their super rich broth, level 2 (spicy) spiciness, vermicelli, and beef. A HUGE bowl of proteins and vegetables came out, and I was beyond excited to try it! The concept was almost similar to Boiling Point/Tasty Pot yet it wasn't as it was in just a "ramen" bowl. Crazy! The amount of flavor was outstanding! There was a kick of spiciness and the richness of the broth made a huge difference compared to the regular broth. It was much creamier and full of umami. Sooo much food packed into one dish and for such a great price! I also tried their kid's size Japanese twice-roasted milk tea which caught my eyes. Not bad but kind of watery especially for the price of the drink for the size I got. My group and I also ordered their Deep Fried Golden Bun with Condensed Milk which I HIGHLY recommended to my friends as this dish is crazy delicious! Such a simple dish yet suuuper good. The bun was crispy on the outside yet sooo soft on the inside. The condensed milk gave it a sweetish kick that complimented really well with the bun. It was my friends first time trying it, and they loved it sooo much that they ordered it again on their next visit LOL. This restaurant is definitely a hidden gem!
