Generally if I can see through it, I'm not drinking it. Even though my initial education of the beverage was through a German microbrewery, I somehow ended up as a stout drinker. But the German's do make Schwarzbier which is a damn great alternative to my stout ways. Kostritzer on draught is some damn tasty stuff. Hail to the beer that absorbs the light of day

The restaurant is nice and well decorated. The atmosphere was fun and festive. Staff were friendly and attentive even though they were busy. They have a decent beer selection and I was happy to try some new brews that I hadn't had in other places. The food was good. We had beef which was well cooked and very tasty. The chips with garlic sauce were also surprisingly tasty. The sausage dish was also really good. I expected larger sausages, but with that said, while not a huge dish, the quality was superb. The bathrooms are clean and well stocked. Ultimately, the restaurant is pretty good. Prices are slightly higher than what I would expect, but Karlovy Vary is a touristy place. For a tourist hot spot, the prices are fair.

My friend and I inadvertently ended up at Goldhopfen after trying to go to Stoned, and we were…read morehappy that we made this mistake. The beers at Goldhopfen were cheap and good; the bartender was very interesting and clearly had a passion for service and bartending. We each had a couple of the local Weiße Elster pale ales and sat out at a small table on the sidewalk. Although we didn't spend much time inside, it looked like there was a variety of games to play and areas to sit. We were also able to get some beers to-go upon leaving. I hope Goldhopfen stays in business and gains some traction in this neighborhood - it's a great place for a chill night!

They have a 10 euro 4-taster flight of all the draft beers that is a pretty good deal and they always have some kind of IPA on draft. Last night the draft beers were IPA, pale ale, lager and pils. The vibe of this place is very relaxed. It almost feels like you are in your friends basement. There is plenty of seating inside and also a little outdoor patios space. The bar also stays stocked up on a variety of board games that you can play. Overall a very relax, chill hang-out vibe.

It was very quiet. No friendly greeting when we walked in so we just sat down. It took about 15 min for a waitress to appear at our table with menus (if we wouldn't have been stuck for a place we would have walked out). The beer we ordered arrived promptly as did the food. A smile wouldn't have went a miss though, we felt like intruders. The food itself was absolutely delicious, no complaints there. My partner had finished his meal when i was just about to finish mine the waitress appeared and whipped the plate from under my nosenot very good. We then requested the bill (would have liked to stay for another drink or two but didn't feel very welcome) which arrived quicker than the service was before. no friendly smile, no enquiries whether we enjoyed our meal, nothing really. So needless to say, we wont be going back there.

I wanted some authentic German food while in Erfurt, and it seemed like Zum Goldenen Schwan…read moreconsistently came up on Internet searches for a great place to eat in Erfurt. I asked to sit outside, and my server placed me at a small table with two other people. I don't mind sitting with others in a communal setting, but I thought it was strange and a bit rude to be sat at a table meant for four with two other people who were at a different stage of their meal than me. For an appetizer I had the Hausgemachtes Würzfleisch in der Blätterteigpastete mit Sauce Hollandaise (Ragout fin in a pie crust with Hollandaise sauce, pictured) which flavorful and a good amount of food for an appetizer. For my main course, I had the Gebratene Flugentenkeule mit Apfelrotkohl und Thüringer Klößen (roast leg of duck with red cabbage and potato dumplings, pictured). The prices seemed reasonable for the amount of food I had. I've read other reviews about this restaurant which hinted that this was a touristy, crowded restaurant, but I didn't feel that way here. The service was decent for Germany, and the food was promptly brought to me.

The beer here is really excellent. Their Hausbier (pils) was very drinkable, probably the best drink I had in Erfurt. Followed this up with a potatoe beer (not quite sure how the potatoe is brought into the brewing process) which was also a nice drink. Decided to eat something and the dumpling was certainly a tasty way to soak up some beer.
