As a long time customer of this establishment, I recently visited 185 Restaurant with high hopes, as their menu looked incredibly enticing as always. However, my experience was extremely disappointing, as the restaurant did not honor their menu. Several of the items I had hoped to order were either unavailable or significantly altered from what was advertised on the menu. As today is Mother's Day, my wife's first at that, she, our newborn, and I all looked forward in sharing this special day together at our favorite local brunch spot. I even called ahead the day before to ensure the same menu used daily would be available and the hours were the same and the representative stated it would be. L On such a beautiful sunny day our day was darkened when we arrived to find out (after waiting 30 minutes) that the menu presented before us wasn't the daily menu. When we asked for the daily menu they said they were only doing what was on today's menu and couldn't accommodate us. This place is known for their amazing burgers and didn't have any of what we were looking for on this menu. Just to make sure I didn't hear wrong, I even check their social media, website, and Yelp to see if this menu change was advertised and it wasn't. As a long time customer I don't appreciate our favorite local brunch spot ruining this special day for our family. We are seriously considering never returning here again due to this sour taste...or lack thereof...left in our memory. Please do better. Thank you. read more

This spot is exactly what Poquoson needed: Great food and lovely people! It's a small place, but with both indoor and outdoor seating, their doing their best to keep customers happy! My friends and I went for brunch, apparently they take reservations, so I'd recommend that! Most of the tables are on the smaller size, so if you're in a large group I'd definitely call ahead. The menu is served all day, but being a breakfast food fan, I went with the honey butter chicken sweet potato biscuit. Oh my gosh, it was so good, and worth every single calorie I'm sure I consumed. If you like grits - even if you typically don't, get the grits!! Also they have brunch cocktails - a full cup mimosa (your choice of pineapple, orange or mango)! We have lived in Poquoson for 6 months. I remember seeing this location while exploring the town. They open shortly after we moved to VA. We finally made it in. We love it! It is a cute little restaurant that has great food. Be prepared to possibly wait. If they know you will be back they will put a reserved card on the table they plan to use for your party while the current party is at the table still. The do a casual service. When you walk in, find a table. They will bring a menu to you. Then you go to the cashier and order. They will bring food and drinks to you. They will also stay on top of making sure drinks are good, condiments are available, drinks are filled and dirty plates are moved. We of course ordered a lot... we always do when we are trying a new place. We got the 185 plate, sausage burrito with grits, western omelet, 1 pancake, shrimp n grits, jalapeño bacon grilled cheese with smashed browns, 2 PB Reese's cookies (to be enjoyed when kiddos go to bed LOL), the free iced coffee for a Yelp check in and some water, coffee, and OJ to wash it all down. $100 with tip later we were satisfied. Everything was great. Prices were a tiny bit high, but totally manageable. Coffee was $3, husband was not a fan of that. But, we do not know if it is a speciality coffee from a local or somewhere else? Or was it standard Folgers. I'll have to find that out. The shrimp and grits was to have andouille sausage, but my husband said there was maybe 2-4 thinly sliced pieces. The shrimp was medium sized not jumbo. Not sure if they are locally sourced or not. But, not exactly worth the $14 we paid today due to the sausage. But, it did taste good. I have to figure out where some of the items are sourced to better. The bacon... melt in your mouth!! I could have used a more liquid like salsa for the burrito to dip it into instead of a pico like salsa. The restaurant is small so it can be loud. So if you are looking for a quiet breakfast/brunch you may want to opt to eat outside of available. I actually can not wait for warmer weather because I love eating outside. They do have heaters for outside. One thing I can rave about is the customer service we received. We had already paid for our food. The acai bowl was not available due to a supplier issue. Totally understandable!! Instead of getting something different or a refund we asked for a gift card to come back and try it. My daughter and I love açaí bowls and want to see if there is a good one super close instead of going to Yorktown, Hampton or Newport News. In all it was delicious. Keep up the good work!!! Dear lord - Brunch lovers, if you haven't found this hidden gem, you are MISSING OUT. 185 is in Poquoson, which I always consider to be "far" from home, even though I frequently hop over to Norfolk and the drive is about the same (with no tunnels). I was running some errands nearby and remembered I'd bookmarked this place, so decided to take myself out for an impromptu weekday brunch. Oh my am I glad I did! First off, this place is adorable - it's literally right on the side of the road, so if you aren't careful, you pass it (like I did). They have indoor and outdoor seating and the owners/staff were just as friendly as could be! For any brunch place, I always start with the basics because if you can't master those, the fancier named brunch items on your menu generally are a flash in the pan. So I opted for a bacon egg and cheese biscuit with a side of their smashed potatoes and french toast. Everything was PERFECT. The french toast, perfect texture, seasoning (so many people overdo it on the cinnamon!). My biscuit - egg perfectly cooked to order, crispy bacon, and the biscuit texture, absolutely heavenly. Even the smashed potatoes (which I normally need extra ketchup because nearly every brunch place doesn't season them correctly) were well done. All for about $12, and the portion was so large I didn't finish it all. I've got to rave about this place, though I don't really want to because then I might have to share! Okay, 185 is my new official breakfast spot on the peninsula. For years we've been traveling to Norfolk and Virginia Beach to get some of the best breakfast offerings in tidewater. Truth be told, Hampton and Newport News are lacking when it comes to a good variety of local non chain restaurants for breakfast. Well I found 185 through Yelp on last week and I was impressed with everything I saw and tasted. So much so that I returned with my boys to grab a first day of school breakfast. We got the 185 plate with pancakes and one with French Toast. We sat outside on the patio and took our time eating as we watched passers by on their way to work. I ordered the creole grits and the home made sausage patties as a side while my son's opted for their smash browns and bacon. The menu isn't over the top with pages of options, but there are definitely enough for me to get a good weeks worth of breakfast food under my belt before moving on to try their lunch offerings. My boyfriend and I were excited to try 185 and our experience didn't disappoint! We went around 12pm on a Saturday (it wasn't too busy when we got there but was picking up) and we were greeted warmly as soon as we walked in. Since it was our first time, we were very well taken care of and the menu was thoroughly explained, items were homemade, and we were told they were pretty flexible on making changes to items or crafting something up if you didn't see what you wanted on the menu. I ordered the honey butter chicken biscuit which was delicious (the butter was still drizzling down the side of the sandwich when it was served) and my boyfriend ordered the 185 breakfast and added chocolate chips to his pancakes which he said was quite delightful! Our food also came out pretty quick as well. The chef was also kind enough to share a few small sample items from their menu. I had a taste of the chicken salad which was delish. We would definitely recommend trying this place and will be coming back! I like how they also have mimosas and drinks on their menu. Very friendly, helpful staff and outstanding food prep! My to-go order was ready when promised, after an easy on-line order and clear on-line menu. The breakfast burrito and side of 'smashed brown' potatoes was available in the afternoon, obviously cooked to order. The potatoes (with soft skins) were perfectly cooked for me, and lightly seasoned. The tortilla was lightly grilled, and very tightly wrapped the burrito to perfection. Good thing I was hungry, because the burrito was generously stuffed with scrambled egg, sausage, peppers, and onions - all perfectly cooked. One of our local favs! It's a little bit of a drive out there but it makes for a pleasant morning date for brunch. We always love the sweet potato biscuits but the regular breakfast platters are filling and the epitome of American breakfast. The absolute only complains I have are not getting the weekday menu on the weekends (the Acai Bowl is absolutely life changing) and it is a bit confusing for newcomers on where to stand to wait for a table. The employees are incredibly hard working and friendly. Building is small but doesn't feel crowded even when the restaurant is completely full. Everything I've gotten here has been delicious. Found this place, thanks to a Yelp recommendation! We were out in this area in the middle of the week, so when we arrived, we were able to be seated right away. The dining area is pretty small, so if you're going during a busier time, you may have to wait to be seated, but it's well worth it! The server was friendly and gave us some great guys suggestions. I ended up getting the burrito and hubby got the grilled cheese (smashed potato side for both of us) - portions were huge and delicious! I definitely recommend the smashed potatoes as well. This is probably our fourth time coming here, and I haven't taken a single picture because the food is gone before I can remember to. Tried this place on a whim, found it by searching diners in Poquoson. I'm overwhelmed at how satisfied I am at this place. First time we got the Can I Have a Bite of Yours (a sample platter of eggs, meat, and a pancake or French toast) and the Hangover Plate (biscuits and gravy with all the breakfast foods on top. I'm VERY picky with my eggs and pancakes. So much so that I rarely eat either. These were perfect. Soft, fluffy, scrambled eggs that weren't runny. Pancake like sweet fluffy pillows in each bite. The Hangover plate was gone and my husband was very satisfied, even sending his dad a picture of the empty plate. The jalapeno grilled cheese is to die for, and has quite a bit of kick. The burger is hand crafted and smokehouse mayo really adds a nice flavor to it. The French toast is like the pancakes--syrupy perfection. The coffee is great and they have a wide variety of creamers, unlike many places around here it seems. But the staff is honestly my favorite part. They are friendly, attentive, and always greet you with a smile. I fear this place gaining popularity, as it usually has no line/no wait. But the small house style restaurant has several tables, so they seat folks pretty fast. Tl;dr: go here for an epic local mom and pop breakfast. read more
