I just ordered food here for the first time. I have loved their boba and I get the milk tea boba almost twice a week. I'm a vegetarian so my options here were limited, but there were still great options! I got a vegan chicken sandwich with tomato and lettuce. I loved it! It was so delicious. Boba in Simi Valley??? Yup, it does exist. When I walked in, I was surprised by the extensive menu. They have all the drink and boba combinations you would expect at a typical boba place. Flavor milk tea, slush, snow bubble, mini boba, jelly, etc. They have it all! 118 Cafe also offers desserts and the typical boba cafe food. The spicy popcorn chicken, noodles, rice...more than I expected. They even have cinnabun! I ordered a milk tea and a strawberry slush. It's not good as the chain boba places like Lollipop, but it's not bad. They have board games, computers for you to use, magazines to read, and they even sell the little Asian gift shop items. After moving back to Simi Valley from Davis where there were at least 3 boba places within throwing distance of my apartment, I was depressed. Ventura County as a whole is seriously lacking in the boba department. I kind of hate it. I refuse to drive into the valley because I'm scared of the valley. It's gross but that's not what I'm reviewing. After a quick Yelp search, I found this place not even 5 minutes from my house. Bingo! I've been here maybe 10 times now and I've enjoyed it every time. I always order the same mango and peach smoothie with extra bona and it's always cold and delicious! I also like how it doesn't have an artificial taste like some I've had in the past. They even have jelly and mini boba to add to your drink too. :) I can't speak much about the food because I haven't tried it but I plan on it soon! I'm typing this as I try the machta green tea smoothie and it's also very good. Okay... so after hearing my employees rave about this place, I decided to check out this place. I was excited to see how "Fobbish" it looked and the food being served looked deeelicious. The inside reminded me of those hole in the wall Asian restaurants in the Valley and in some parts of LA. So I get to the counter and the server rolls her eyes and gives me a look to notion that she's ready? WTH... how unprofessional! I asked her where the boba menu was and she pointed at it and said, "..let me know when you know what you want," as she rushed over in excitement to see that her two obnoxious friends came to visit. I had never been to this 118 Cafe and didn't know where to pick up my Boba... or if the tables that were being waited on were only for sit down customers... So I just stood there. It took 15 minutes for the girl to make my tea because she let her friends distract her the whole time. She finally remembered my order cause her boss noticed me standing in the corner staring at her. I ordered the Jasmine Milk Tea with Taro and wow... not only did the customer service suck... but the tea was bitter and the Taro tasted old. My first time visit will be my last. PS. I always enjoy coming here. The workers and the owner Isa are very welcoming. Never had any bad experience here! Been coming here since I lived in Simi Valley and never once had I ever had a complain! I love Isa's cooking! Their cream cheese wonton is super good, spam stir fry bowl, and for drinks I always get the strawberry slush with rainbow jellies! Price is super affordable it's like a typical cafe food. Super delicious. I recently started having their corn wonton soup since it has been chilly and let me tell you it is super delicious it's like a egg drop soup with corn and wonton added to them! I was really excited to try this place, but I was very disappointed. After reading the reviews that said it tastes as authentic as other boba places, I had pretty high expectations. Maybe that's what the problem was? I'm not sure if it's because they may have been having an off day, but the boba was so hard I didn't even finish my drink. The milk tea was just O-K, which is fine with me. I honestly go to boba places for the BOBA. It literally tasted like it was yesterday's leftovers, or the person who made it this morning definitely needs more training/or needs to learn how to make it right. The perks of this place, however, is that they have games set up at tables for people to play. I saw that they had mancala (throwback to elementary), checkers, chinese checkers, & scrabble. I probably will give this place another chance because it's so close to my house. I hate having to drive all the way to Northridge for good boba. Hopefully I just went on a bad day. REMEMBER, they have stamp cards so be sure to ask for one & they also charge 50 cents for credit card payments under $5. A large milk tea with boba was $4.79, so it shouldn't be too hard spending more than $5. Otherwise, just go to the nearest bank if you don't want to get charged the surcharge. read more

I don't want to completely bash this place. I understand that it's the only boba in Simi Valley, and sometimes I'd rather not have to drive to the valley or beyond for boba. This has come to be, a last resort...damn that sounds harsher than I actually mean.. I've been going to this place ever since it's beginnings as Tapioca Express, and ever since then, the quality of the boba hasn't really changed. Not too much has been added to the menu besides food items either. The menu items consist of the standard boba drinks, nothing in the way of innovation like most of the SGV boba shops have nowadays. Don't get me wrong, the drinks are NOT bad. There is just better out there, but you'd have to travel some distances to find them. The service has always been very friendly every time I come in. If I had any suggestions for this place, it would be for them to modernize their look. Ditch the displays for the random merchandise, that stuff is just cheesy. The people that still get boba, are probably familiar with some of the SGV boba spots, and are looking for the same kind of experience. Or maybe it's just me. For now, I'm sticking with 3 stars because I commend 118 Cafe for still being open in Simi Valley, and I really want this place to do well. read more

Located in a bland strip mall in Simi Valley, 118 Cafe sparked my interest as I drove though the parking lot aimlessly. Upon entering the the first thing you notice is the decor, it is an assault on the senses. It is similar to the countless Pink Berry clones, but with it's own unique touch. A couple of tables, two yellow couches with coffee tables. There are stacks of American and Asian magazines and various misc. knickknacks which many of them are for sale. On to the menu, there are various food items under the title "Snack", Combo Meals, and Manager specials. I am really curious what #15 under "Snack" called Hoctopus($3.25) is, there is also the Hoctopus Kid's Meal ($3.99). Either it is a misspelling or a new species the rest of the world is unaware of. We had already decided that we would be getting drinks only, so we ordered the Blended Peach Smoothie with Boba ($2.99), the Blended Butterfinger Smoothie($3.75) and Fresh Avocado Smoothie($3.95). Fresh Avocado Smoothie you say? It is one of those things that doesn't sound good, but is. Extremely rich and creamy, you can definitely share this one. The Peach Smoothie was awesome and the boba was fresh and soft. The Butterfinger Smoothie was decadent and topped with whipped cream and a mini Butterfinger. The owner and staff were very friendly and the drinks we had were great. I can only give 4 stars because I haven't tried the food menu, yet. The best go-to spot in Simi for Boba drinks! Great flavor selection, I recommend the Passion Fruit, Honeydew, or Pina Colada blended drinks! Not only do they have Boba, but they have ton of different kinds of boba and jelly for your drinks in different sizes and flavors! If you're looking for a snack, they have steamed pork buns, appetizer sized samosas, and lots of sandwich options! We're new to the area, so we're very happy and excited to have found an 'Asian' cafe! We always order the sesame balls, spicy popcorn chicken, and milk tea w/ boba when craving for some delicious snacks. Out of the gazillion times we ordered, there was one incident where they had accidentally burnt the sesame balls. We hadn't realized it was so burnt until we brought it back home. I called to let them know that it was burnt, and the owner, I think, apologized and said she will not charge us for the next ones. Couple months later, I placed a phone order for pick up, and surprisingly, she remembered and offered before I even said anything! Now, that's excellent customer service. Isa and her staff provide me with wonderful customer service and I absolutely love all of the snacks and food I can get. I highly recommend getting fried pot stickers as well as sweet and sour pork. I'm from the San Gabriel Valley and we have a plethora of tea shops so my judgement is pretty strict when it comes to tea places. I take my tea VERY seriously, lol. My parents live in Simi Valley, or what I'd like to call "Retirement Town". Whenever I visit them I can't seem to stay at their place all day because they do what old people do all day: watch tv, eat, and bitch at their children :( (me).. I went to Yelp trying to find a place like Tenju Tea House and I found Cafe 118 nearby (it used to be a TapEx). For being in a non-Asian area their tea is decent. You can't expect the best tea from a city where you can count the number of asian people you see on the streets with one hand, HA. I ordered a honey green milk tea with no sugar (tea should not be drunk with sugar, imo), but when I got it and took a sip all I could taste was the sugar :(. I'll probably give this place another chance the next time I'm in the area because they provide free wifi, so if you are studying or need a place to use the internet it is pretty awesome (beggars can't be choosers)! I found this place a week ago from one of my coworkers. Here's a few drinks I had after work this week. I'll try more and update this page as often as I can: - Avocado smoothie with boba: 5 out of 5 stars! Made with real avocados not powder like a lot of boba shops. Tastes like how I make it at home except it doesn't have my secret ingredient. - Watermelon Slush with boba: 2 out of 5 stars. It was ok. It was more slush than fresh watermelon. - Hazelnut over ice with boba: 4 out of 5 stars. It was really good. I'm not into very sweet drinks with sugar overpowering the flavor of the drink. The hazelnut flavor was present but not over whelming. Their boba is the reason why I keep going back. The boba is soft like mochi, chewy but not as chewy as a gummy bear, consistent texture throughout and it's always served warm. The facility is clean, have magazines, chess, checkers and other games too. It also has a small retail shop like sunglasses, My Shalden car air fresheners, Asian products. Day visited: January 19th, 2013 Time vistited: Around 4:00pm I've been here before and never had a major problem before, a couple times where I felt the drink was too sweet but that's about it. However this visit was different. The owner(?) that usually wears the bandanas wasn't there and it was a new girl working and making the drinks. We ordered and waited and it took at least 10 ~ 15 minutes to get our drinks. I don't mind waiting but whatever I ordered better be worth it for the long wait. My problem: I ordered iced milk coffee, not lukewarm coffee, not going to be cold coffee but iced milk coffee. I would like my drink to actually be cold. Also to be noted: The amount of boba in my drink varies every time I come here, not a big deal but kind of disappointing when I go out of my way to get a boba iced milk coffee only to not have a balanced portion of boba with my drink. I will return again(because there really isn't another boba place within walking distance and because they have a buy one get one free deal through yelp) but this visit was a disappointment and hope it's better next time. read more

I have been here quite a few times, and I have to say it has never let me down. This place is perfect for boba, lunch, a snack, or whatever. The boba is delicious and very chewy and soft. The drinks are great and there are so many flavors of smoothies, that it's guaranteed you will find something that you want here. They have sandwiches, salads, and small entrees you can order, as well. What I really enjoy about this spot is the family type atmosphere. I bring my little brother here often and we get smoothies and hang out in the shop. They offer games such as jenga, chess, checkers, and cards. So you can bring a friend, have a smoothie and play some games while you lounge. This is one of the only places in Ventura County that I visit with boba due to the quality and the friendly atmosphere. It is always worth the drive. read more

I've got respect for this place ! Super affordable , vegan friendly ,(although be sure to make sure to ask for no cheese or mayo and stuff like that on sandwich bc it's not vegan ). 118 Cafe is a great boba place! My favorite things to get are the Rose Green Tea and Hibiscus Green Tea. My mom is a huge fan of the Honeydew slush with boba. They also have a lot of yummy snacks such as pot stickers that pair great with the teas and slushes. The only complaint I have is that it sometimes takes a while to get your order but it is worth the wait. It is most likely due to the fact that they have a small staff making all of the food and drinks but they are super sweet, friendly, and hard working.
